Maybe he is. We don't know all the ins and outs of it yet, maybe that's what his management were rumoured to be not happy about, not the fact that he wasn't 'thrown staight back in' at 6 or 7, but that he spent the whole game on the bench with a bye coming up?
Reading the tea leaves, I think Metcalf thinks he should be starting number 7 and everyone should move around him. You would only do this for an elite established half like Cleary, or Reynolds.

It’s pretty obvious Boyd and cht have to start. But you have to feel a bit for metcalf, couldn’t break into the shark team, gets to the wahs finally makes it and looks the goods and gets injured. All round the team gets better and he can’t get back in cos of Boyd. He’s 27 and can’t complete a full season. I can understand why this has come round. But unfortunately for him the football gods have never been on his side. I’d move to png and at least try to make some coin plus game time if he can stay on the park

To which I would ask "Who the hell is coaching this team?"

Andrew Webster?

Or Luke Metcalf's agent?
Exactly! That would all tie in with how the whole thing ended up in the public domain in the first place, I don't find the "asking for clarity" to be unreasonable and probably happens more often than we know about. The fact that it's out there leads to all this speculation, and people taking sides off of nothing.

Far be it for me to be questioning Webby, but there are a couple of things that don't make sense to me either.

Yeah but why risk taking a roll of the dice when you have a lucrative contract here with a strong club that you already have runs on the board with?
Just be humble and ready to grab an opportunity and make it a winner..

I get that too! If that's the case then I think he needs to prove his case in Cup just as Tanah did and trust whatever Webby is telling him. Do we see Luke with that same ethic and determination?

Really? Not done anything wrong?
When Metcalf was put back into first grade immediately after became available again after injury, he didn’t perform very well, did he. Granted he was probably put back in without enough preparation with the rest of the team. But whatever, he didn’t perform very well and more or less everyone here was saying., hey Webby, you’ve messed up, that halves pairing that was playing so well together and winning matches for us, leave it as it was.
100% was underdone that was obvious. I hope like he'll they aren't making calls based on those 2 games

Tanah has done an amazing job to come to a random club, new environment and ply his trade

He had an opportunity to head back across the ditch last year to a more likely first grade chance, but extended here and put his head down. Bravo 👏🏽

Webster has created an environment where a lot of players have reached new heights. A great position to be in

I actually rue the fact that we went all in on Metcalf as it has been a bit destabilising to try to slot him back in. I actually think as a 6 he has a few work ons (lateral movement and distribution). And as a 7 he has a small sample size of good games.

But he isn’t young, he isn’t durable and I can understand he’d prefer to have a long career at 7 than try to batter himself at 6

Hopefully NSW cup he can be given the 7 jersey and time to get himself back in shape

They need to give him this opportunity rather than twiddling his thumbs on a 6 man bench, where the chances of him playing are slim
Probably should have happened when he origanally came back from the ACL.

I don't understand Webby's reasoning that we needed him on the bench in case somebody went down? the bloke's been out for 10 months, came back for two losses and did a hammy, we're sitting 2nd on the ladder with a bye in hand, was he really that crucial?
