It will be interesting to see if AKP plays first grade for the club. I reckon it is 50/50 he won't. If Mellars turns good defensively (tackling, diffusion, positioning) then I think he'll be preferred over a liability with upside. I also think Pompey will shift if needed.

Mellars will be Warbrick's backup. His try he scored on Friday was deadset Warbrickesque. It's like for like. I agree, AKP is not guaranteed. Apart from speed, I don't know what else he offers.

AKP was more or less released from the Titans and wasn’t a fixture in 1st grade last season. If you watched NSW Cup you’d know why.

Thank fuck the Lomax saga is over. Wouldn’t want him anywhere near our club, salty prick taking pot shots at the NRL. I’m quite enjoying our current NO dickhead roster policy since we waved goodbye to Matt Lodge.

As for WW, could go either way, but still probably an upgrade on AKP & DWZ. I’m more interested in Whyte long term, hope was have plans he’ll take over from JFH! He will be in the top half-dozen front rowers in the comp before long.

Normally our signings have been a directly comfirmable surprise from an offical source. Seems a bit odd that this one being leaked, while also having those links say it is a vauge large sum of money. Screams to me that maybe we were chasing at some point but the deal has fell through or his manager has put this out to gague interest from other clubs. Still think it's possible he ends up here, just think it's not a sure thing like the rumor seems to state.

That said i do put him above every winger we have outside of RTS. But not a big enough improvment that i think it'd be worth the money over just getting in a prospect unless DWZ leaves early.

AKP wouldn’t of sign for us to just stay in NSW Cup

Ermm yeah he would. That's just the level he is at right now. He has speed and a lot of people are backing him to improve past that level. But he's not a week in/week out first grader right now. He hardly had any suitors when the Titans were trying to dump him. I think he could get there end of this year but he has some very clear weaknesses he needs to work on first.

I haven't been that impressed with Mellars so far. Great aerial threat and amazing corner finishing ability. But absolutely piss poor in contact for a guy his size. No point being 6'4 if you play like you're 5'10. I think he would struggle to run for 100m of early tackle yardage per game at NRL level.

I strongly believe that Brandon Norris and Motu Pasikala are the best wing prospects at the club that are less than a couple years off first grade.

I still like the idea of clearing house in terms of outside backs. Don't re-sign RTS (the fall off will be sudden and fast at 33) and ship off DWZ

Run with Warbrick, AKP, Mellars and Motu as top 30 wingers with Norris on supplementary contract (as well as maybe Kali depending on how injury free he is this year).

Yeah he hardly impressed in NSW Cup in the weekend. Don’t recall him taking many (if any) hit ups early in the set which is the norm for a wahs winger.

I think he will be good for the team in top grade, just because his speed will be a real point of difference for us.
For example, Charnze caught a kick deep in our own 10 metre line put a step on and put Roger into some space, but was wrapped up fairly easily by Nawaqanitawase, if that was Akp there’s a good chance we score a 90 metre try which I haven’t seen since the Locke, Prime SJ days.
Gotta take the good with the bad i guess.

Him and Roger is a good balance.

As for Mellars I have t seen him make 1 tackle break in 2 trial games and 1 cup game.
