Honestly if you watch the whole press conference, I think Webster was pretty straight up. He said we're just rewarding performance in our selections and what will be will be. Or words to that effect. He also said that there are players who have been off contract since November 1 and they're about halfway through the 12 months from that point and there was no panic about signing, and it's fine for players to act in their own interests. I don't think there's any secret agenda here. I think we have a glut of halves performing well and the club is seeing how things go from both a selection and recruitment perspective. There's no need to read the tea leaves. No point either. Qué Sera Sera.

The Warriors have been a black hole for recruitment information due to a much more professional modus operandi. Yes, he looked awkward, hopping backwards and forward etc, but that would be from the desire to keep all the cards hidden.

It actually answered the question with optimism for me. The key has been "is the club looking to retain all three halves," and clearly we are.

Yeah, that spit the dummy comment (though a throwaway joke) was pretty tantalising. He made it sound like the player(s) still thinks the club played hardball. Lodge (dummy) and AFB (club hardball) for sure. Walker and Curran left quick, but I didn't get the feeling from the way they talked about the club that there was animosity there.
I thought curran had no animosity as well. But if this isn't "spitting the dummy" then i don't know what is.

I remember he looked at me and asked what's wrong. I said: ‘You obviously don't trust in me because if you did, I would have played a lot more minutes.
“So, I looked at him and said I just want to go home to my family right now … it's obvious you don't want me here.”

“He said: ‘It's not like that'. But I told him: ‘I'm not dumb.'”

That's a shame. It sounds like the immaturity he turned up with, overweight and a pea-heart on defence. I figured he'd be thankful for the club's investment in turning him into a decent first grader.

He shouldn't be hung over this post, we all get caught out saying things we don't necessarily mean, but those players with the victim mentality chip don't do themselves any favours in their careers. Webby sure wouldn't be the type to tolerate those personality types, which is why we have such a galvanised team now. Same for the Panthers.

Everyone here reading all sorts of terrible things into Webster saying they love CHT and they're in dialogue with him about an extension, while wearing a neutral facial expression... Youse are crazy. What's he going to say? "We'll pay anything for him"? "We want home gone"? You guys need your heads checked.
It is part of the fun I guess.

His facials weren't neutral at all though. His voice was unsteady too.

But like you I don't try to read what it actually means, I take him at his word coz I can't read peoples minds. And yes, he ain't gonna say we are desperate to keep him eh coz that just costs your salary cap.

We have a budget, a plan for every contract, with some wriggle room, but that wriggle room, at a good club, will be formulaic rather than emotional, as soon as we start going outside our top range from "the plan" we are lost again.
