CHT does not qualify for Tax free status in PNG with protection from home country residency tax laws.

Under our laws he would have to live almost a full year in PNG to not pay tax in NZ. And obviously he would not be part of the new PNG Australian NRL players tax free status anyway.

Clearly it is great for us. But limits the Chiefs player pool.
Interesting.
If I was a player, I'd be speaking to my management team about getting to PNG for those tax free $, even if it meant spending a season in Aust beforehand.

It seems that money is now up there with European rugby! The only saving grace for the teams is that PNG may prioritise their own, BUT their local players won't be demanding much. They literally could get almost anyone they want who pririotises a big contract.

Sorry if I muddied the waters, let me clarify, there is no way for tax free in PNG for Non Australians. You still have to pay tax in PNG to their Govt.

This deal is two fold, tax free status in PNG and Tax free status in Australia for Australian citizens (that qualify specifically under the NRL Governmental approved special tax exemptions).

What I was referring to for Kiwis generally like you and me is that you have to live outside NZ for (think it is 323 days?) to not be taxed twice over by PNG and NZ (this is not my area of expertise, posters feel free to correct me) the point is that the new arrangement under the NRL is unprecedented and for Australian citizen NRL players only.

CHT as a NZ citizen does not qualify at all under the new changes. The only way someone like him would be attracted is if the PNG GOVT gave players like him a tax free deal in PNG (no such deal exists) and he would have to be living in PNG year around for the 323 days to not pay tax when he is in NZ for the financial year.

Anybody put any stock in any of this chat? I see they've been quoting Manu's dad in an article so there is some dialogue there.

Wot is the Dad saying?

What does Joey think?

"If there's a legitimate chance" shit that is some level five no story quote right there eh.

That is the exact same language we use around here with one had down our pants "If player X was to sign anywhere you would think it will be us coz he's a Kiwi".

Yeah I do that too trust me I dream about it (with both my hands on on the keyboard cough cough).

Still, thanks for posting, that is how rumours get started and this is the rumours room.

He would cost more than he is worth in a Warriors context. Be like Signing young RTS again, well.....we don't need one marquee player type bumbs on seats desperado moves anymore.

If we were to move Niukore on this year before the June deadline I think wed have the best part of 400k free, which would be what Joey is worth for 6 months....

Dare to dream! And elite backline talent falling into our hands could be the part of that premiership puzzle were currently missing...

To be fair, I dont think theres a chance at all haha, but fun to dream
