I heard it on the bye round podcast (James graham’s) but kept listening and he was talking about going st george (which made me second guess it) and the more believable he might just retire and go into media

I deleted it cause i did the same had a look around and saw nowhere else coming out with it.
Sweet! Thanks bro. Better check out old ginger nuts podcast i guess.

On Metcalf it seems pretty straightforward.

Extension will happen before Nov 1. If it doesn't, have to assume they are seeing what else comes their way.
If he doesn’t stick around past 2026, are you confident we’ve got someone ready? Sounds like he’s potentially the one holding out signing? Big risk going too high with the salary, still the same injury risks

I think the end of season has skyrocketed his stocks really. If we won maybe 50-60 percent of the games after he was injured we could get away with the 700 - 800 mark. As it stands would have to go 1 mil atleast.

Which i think they should but with a shorter contract maybe 2 years at a mil each to see if he can go into finals uninterrupted.

At the moment, no.

But we don't need someone ready for 2027 today.

Two further pre-seasons and a full season, I have confidence that someone or something would materialise.

At the very worst we have Boyd which is actually a great spot to be in. Just don't expect greatness.

Yep, short and big is the way to go.

Sounds like whatever we put forward was knocked back, which is fine.

I suspect Metcalf would favour a longer deal.

That article and recent ones have speculated a long term offer has been offered. He’ll be 27 when the season kicks off next year so perhaps a couple of years would be appropriate?

Looking at players leaving this year - only player I’m disappointed with losing is Ale… I thought he was going to go to another level in 2025 . Instead nothing. I guess there’s a story there.

And regarding players finishing at end of 2026 like everyone else I have Metcalfe as number 1 priority to keep.
Then Tannah
And I’m on the fence with CHT and Tuaupiki.
Holding CHT could stifle the next guy up …. and he’s probably peaked. But I really like the effort and passion and utility. If we can afford to keep him he’s a great 4th halves option - as TMM was this year.

Likewise loved Tuaupiki as our most exciting back (withMetcalfe) but he’s probably shown us all he’s got too. IMO. Fullback recruitment or development is a massive work-on for the squad.

Easy players to let the contract run its course and see how they go are getting old or just injury prone
RTS
Capewell
Marata
Berry
Lussick … ok not old or injury prone just limited.

Bring on the summer recruitment rumours!!
