You do recall Chad townsend was halfback in a premeirship winning team eh?

With Maloney alongsie him and Barba in career form.

We don't have a Maloney or a Barba currently so Volkman doesn't move the needle.

1, 6, 7, 9 - two of those need to either be elite players or just elite that year. Volkman doesn't have that sort of ceiling in him so we need 2 of the other 3 alongside him.

Volkman turned 21 in July 2023
1) a 19 year old Cleary was significantly better
2) Shaun Johnson debuted at 22 i read somewhere and was immediately better than anything we can hope from volkman next year
3) we kept saying with cht it takes 50 games of nrl and just give him time but he never got any better
4) volkman is a spine player
If we are going to win the entire comp we need an elite spine and not spine players who are only nrl standard which seems to be that cieling for volkman
5) rooster gave up on him

Again by choosing SJ as an example you are using a guy who all NRL pundits agree was the most naturally gifted player Rugby league has ever seen.

Take your point about CHT, but CHT cannot kick like Volkman, Ronnie has a chance of growing into a Reynolds type half and as such, he is one you want to be very sure of letting go.

Saint, Sinner, Shoosh: Knights star’s ultimate sacrifice for twin

In a bid to keep his brother at the club, Newcastle star Daniel Saifiti made a heartwarming offer to take a pay cut… but the Knights had little option but to reject the push.

What makes you think that?
He had contributed to the Bears being tied top of NSW Cup & the Roosters were leading Jersey Flegg as well when he signed. The Roosters said they'd only release him early if we also took Lussick to help the balance of their NRL side too. They appeared reluctant to let him go
Yea I remember part of the discussion at the time was that the Roosters had to make a call to prioritise developing Sandon Smith or Volkman. Bearing in mind they already have another young half in Sam Walker.

Definitely appeared to be more of an unlucky squeezing out, rather than "this guy is no good"

Excellent comparison with Reynolds, he is a game manager with his kicking game but has always been asked to be the complimentary piece when given an opportunity. Playing some games alongside SJ would be valuable in his progression but playing in partnership with TMM against the Dolphins or with Crichton yesterday would be as useful as tits on a bull. Crichton's kicking game was horrible yesterday and still Samoa let him lead the halves.

Sounds like storm are shopping Papenhuyzen. With Fa’alogo showing he’s a star in the making, there’s an admission apparently they need to bolster their pack to compete with panthers and broncos. Feel like we’re in a similar boat and lacking a couple of strong forwards.
Be interesting to see where he ends up
