NRL Market Watch: Deal off as Sio Siua Taukeiaho fails medical, Matt Moylan quits NRL | Daily Telegraph

The proposed deal between Canterbury and former Sydney Roosters prop Sio Siua Taukeiaho is off due to a foot injury.
Taukeiaho, 31, was offered a two-year deal at Belmore but hadn’t yet secured a release from Catalans Dragons in Super League.

Catalans were prepared to release him and Taukeiaho had agreed to a Bulldogs contract provided he passed a medical.

Taukeiaho is back in Australia but failed Canterbury’s medical last week due to his foot issue.

It is understood the injury will require surgery which would prevent him training throughout the off-season and into early next year.

It was enough for the Bulldogs to walk away, the decision a setback in Canterbury’s impressive rebuild.

Bulldogs recruit Stephen Crichton didn’t train but appeared at Belmore on Monday to meet with his new teammates.

Sio Siua Taukeiaho’s deal with Canterbury Bulldogs has been called off.

MATT MOYLAN CALLS TIME ON NRL - MOVES TO UK CLUB IMMEDIATELY

—David Riccio

Former NSW Origin half Matt Moylan has played his last NRL game, agreeing to a two year-deal with Leigh in the English Super League.

The 32-year-old Sharks five-eighth had one year remaining on his contract at the Sharks, but has decided to seek a release to prolong his career.

Leigh coach Adrian Lam managed to convince Moylan he would provide experience and an attacking threat for the English club.

Moylan faced the prospect of battling Braydon Trindall for a halves spot alongside Nicho Hynes after the veteran pivot failed to feature in Cronulla’s elimination final against the Roosters this year.

Moylan has played 102 NRL games since arriving at the Sharks after the 2017 season, when he ended an 89-match career with the Panthers.

Moylan played all three games of the 2016 Origin series.

They are genetically built for League and if they ever get serious about it look out!
People are talking about PNG, Fiji and the States, South Africa is going to be bigger than all of them. It does need to be introduced into the schools where Rugby Union has had a traditional stranglehold. Bring a few NRL games or even test matches over to showcase League to Saffer's, pretty sure it wouldn't take much for them to love it.

I’ve harped on many times over the years on this forum that South Africa was the place we should be targeting for players. Huge guys with rugby backgrounds that most importantly want to move to NZ. Apparently there is a big stigma associated with league there though. A South African workmate told me the name they use for league there and it’s certainly not PC.

It would only take 2-3 big names to jump and move successfully to NZ/Aus for the inertia to build and the stigma todisappear. Look what it used to be like for Welsh RU stars back in the 60's and 70's. Now it's never mentioned.

Just need to sell an NZ Permanent Visa. They'll find new mates very quickly.

This article explains how League has allowed Rugby Union to flourish while League barely gets a foothold. Interesting to hear commenters saying they feared League doing to South Africa what has been done to New Zealand. South Africa has around 60 million people, we have been more than competitve, dominant wouldn't be that far from the truth, while also having a sizeable League presence in our country.

Don't really understand the reluctance with Crichton. If the opportunity is there (which it probably isn't), he is 100% worth it. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. But the potential upside is way too good to turn down.
Risk vs reward doesn’t add up for a top 4 club.
If he played great he wouldnt change the team’s fortunes.
If his head wasn’t right it could effect the whole squad and turn us to a bottom 4 team.
