I’ll put my hand up and say I wanted Capewell gone after last season… fuck me he has been enourmous this season. Can’t put a price on the influence and effort he and Barney instil in our young fullas.

Full 80 for the ultimate competitor. Last year he rushed up in defence too much and missed a lot of tackles. Seen him be more selective and calmer this season. The few times Haas was upended, his old Broncos teammate was the tackler 💙💚❤️

Just came across this fox article that was probably released before origin started last night. Again throwing shade on Capes about his supposed defensive issues. Glad he proved the doubters wrong last night: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...o/news-story/eb664ea05e5a0f60cdce6279c53fbe35

CAN CAPEWELL OVERCOME DEFENSIVE DEFICIENCIES?

Kurt Capewell has been a loyal servant for the Maroons, but apart from his recall to the team last year, he hadn’t played for his state since 2022.

The 31-year-old replaced Jeremiah Nanai in the back row, but both players have weaknesses with their defence, so it is hardly fixing that area of the game fo Queensland.

And Nanai offers a lot more in attack with his running game and ability in the air off kicks than Capewell, so it is hard to see what area he improves the starting team in.

Granted, Capewell is playing solid footy for a team in the Warriors, who are entrenched in the top four.

But Origin is for the best players, not just solid players from the best teams.

When David Fifita was overlooked for Capewell last year it didn’t work out too well for the Maroons, so it remains to be seen what has changed a year later."

Was talking to a mate last week who's a Raiders supporter and watches most games, he reckoned Capewell was the in form 2nd rower and centre of the comp

Didn’t watch the game but just checked the game run down.

Did the ref massage QLD to a win. The penalty/ 6 again count was extremely lopsided despite NSW having winning possession stats (55%).

Did NSW have absolutely terrible discipline or not?

Yeah the penalty count was 8-0 or something at half time, but it was NSW having extremely poor discipline. I don't think you'll have many NSW supporters saying they were hard done by, their discipline, errors and defence in the first half was absolute poohs.

Queensland weren't even that good in the first half, loads of errors their selves but they managed to ice most of their opportunities as NSW kept gifting them possession.

They only showed the Luai eye gouge once but I thought it looked pretty bad, very surprised nothing comes from that

On report as an eye gouge:

‘The alleged incident has been met with a Grade 2 contrary conduct charge by the NRL's match review committee, but under State of Origin charge sheet rules - which are different to the standard NRL season - the charge will only carry a 13 per cent of match fees fine if he accepts the early guilty plea.’

WTF - the match review committee is a joke - surely the NrL must step in?
