2nd try, guess who Tom Starling runs right past.. MaRat.
If you could single out one play, and one player that really summed that up it was this - watching live it was incomprehensible that starling got through there - I think Ford was called out as being offside so he was retiring but even so he was vertical to the ruck and not to blame - Marata runs straight up, parallel to the outside of starling's shoulder, and just lets him go on the inside - I've watched it over and over now and makes less sense each time - what the hell was he doing ? All he had to do was adjust in and lean on him - had an age to do that (and he can't have been worried about being beaten on the outside as it was both covered and he wasn't even looking that way ... ) He's got to go just off that surely? it was that bad on its own, but was hardly doing sterling work besides this... he had a Kosi against the Storm level shocker

Seems like an attitude problem with him.
Shame as he had a lot going for him. Size handling aggression . Attitude is very high on the list of "must haves".

I watched the first half again. Ali really needs to work on D especially his positioning. If he can't then maybe the wing for him. Capewell and Niukore looked like they couldn't handle the pace of the game. CNK seemed worst after kung-fu kicking the red head nutball. Ford was a menace to the Raiders. Somehow didn't get pinged though. Pompey looked the most creative with ball in hand. We looked like we were gone after the first 20. Just didn't come close to controlling the ruck. Not sure will watch the second half lol.
That's what I saw. We over spent our energy on getting out muscled. It compressed our defence and opened us out wide. One try we let in had Roger tackling their third man in. We did this last year and don't appear tough enough. The issues are deeper but very familiar to a Warriors supporter.

I'm not going to be too harsh on out halves based on the piss poor platform they were given to play off. Super slow ruck speed and one out running, mixed in with zero second phase play, what do we seriously expect them to do? I honestly believe if TMM played today, people would be calling for his head too.

This loss is on Webby. He picks the team and creates the game plan.

Bunty would have made a difference in that first 20 minutes, purely with energy and intent. He's not a world beater by any stretch but he's 100x more effective than Jackson Ford.

Ali doesn't look like the weakest link on defence on that edge though....

Not sure it would've made any difference to the result but it is noticeable after 4 games that the compressed width of the field does have a significant impact out wide. Will want to see what happens in the next two rounds before getting too concerned, but what a grim start.
Raiders seemed to defend with 12 better than we did with 13

Marata & Capewell ran for a combined 83m, averaging 40m. They missed 11 tackles between them, 8 for Capewell specifically. They played for an average 66 mins.

Halasima & vaimauga played for 20min average, ran for 45metres average, made 9 tackles with 0 misses between them.

Two experienced, representative players, taking up over 1 million of our cap getting outworked & outplayed by a 19 and 20 year old respectively.

I understand that if these two played extended mins, errors and work rate would drop off. But so it should, they’re kids. And I’m also not advocating that they should start, or play 60+ mins.

What I am saying, is that it’s simply unforgivable that these two experienced leaders in our squad continue to not perform with no consequences. Marata should be demoted to the bench at best & cup at worst, he looks disinterested & unenthused to be out there representing his country. Capewell is better than that, and deserves the jersey based on runs on the board. but with halasima not putting a foot wrong & Laban getting better & demanding a spot in 17, the pressure is now on Capewell to either step up, or face the consequences.

Webby needs to stop the favouritism, and start making these two accountable for their poor performances. The reality is, his job is on the line too if he can’t start stacking wins.

Would love to dive deeper than this because I think a change in our 2nd rowers is not only the most needed but also where we have some amazing deepth. But I'm on my phone now so maybe later.

But simply put we dropped Montoya to NSW league for less and he turned out better for it.

Now imagine being one of the other boys playing his heart out and your coach is letting those guys serve up that trash?
