That's what I saw. We over spent our energy on getting out muscled. It compressed our defence and opened us out wide. One try we let in had Roger tackling their third man in. We did this last year and don't appear tough enough. The issues are deeper but very familiar to a Warriors supporter.I watched the first half again. Ali really needs to work on D especially his positioning. If he can't then maybe the wing for him. Capewell and Niukore looked like they couldn't handle the pace of the game. CNK seemed worst after kung-fu kicking the red head nutball. Ford was a menace to the Raiders. Somehow didn't get pinged though. Pompey looked the most creative with ball in hand. We looked like we were gone after the first 20. Just didn't come close to controlling the ruck. Not sure will watch the second half lol.
Ali doesn't look like the weakest link on defence on that edge though....I watched the first half again. Ali really needs to work on D especially his positioning. Raiders seemed to defend with 12 better than we did with 13Not sure it would've made any difference to the result but it is noticeable after 4 games that the compressed width of the field does have a significant impact out wide. Will want to see what happens in the next two rounds before getting too concerned, but what a grim start.
Told you. Our half was a better defender than our edge backrower. Marata is only over 50% because he barely attempts a tackle
Yep. But what we still have potential to see is a cohesive aggressive dominant fearless pack. Next week I reckonDefinitely going to miss the front foot ball AFB could provide on just about every carry.
They not playing next week!Yep. But what we still have potential to see is a cohesive aggressive dominant fearless pack. Next week I reckon![]()
We were gassed by the time they lost Tapine. They could have beat us with 11 by that stageRaiders seemed to defend with 12 better than we did with 13
Would love to dive deeper than this because I think a change in our 2nd rowers is not only the most needed but also where we have some amazing deepth. But I'm on my phone now so maybe later.Marata & Capewell ran for a combined 83m, averaging 40m. They missed 11 tackles between them, 8 for Capewell specifically. They played for an average 66 mins.
Halasima & vaimauga played for 20min average, ran for 45metres average, made 9 tackles with 0 misses between them.
Two experienced, representative players, taking up over 1 million of our cap getting outworked & outplayed by a 19 and 20 year old respectively.
I understand that if these two played extended mins, errors and work rate would drop off. But so it should, they’re kids. And I’m also not advocating that they should start, or play 60+ mins.
What I am saying, is that it’s simply unforgivable that these two experienced leaders in our squad continue to not perform with no consequences. Marata should be demoted to the bench at best & cup at worst, he looks disinterested & unenthused to be out there representing his country. Capewell is better than that, and deserves the jersey based on runs on the board. but with halasima not putting a foot wrong & Laban getting better & demanding a spot in 17, the pressure is now on Capewell to either step up, or face the consequences.
Webby needs to stop the favouritism, and start making these two accountable for their poor performances. The reality is, his job is on the line too if he can’t start stacking wins.
Now imagine being one of the other boys playing his heart out and your coach is letting those guys serve up that trash?Marata & Capewell ran for a combined 83m, averaging 40m. They missed 11 tackles between them, 8 for Capewell specifically. They played for an average 66 mins.

Agreed. Actions speak louder than words, and this is why Barnett & fish are so successful. The difference in their best & worst game is minimal. Capewell can have a shocker, but often backs it up with a stellar game, but the shit games are getting more and more frequent. Marata on the other hand is a bench middle, cart the ball up & physically defend. He isn’t an edge & gets a cold out there, so put his pay package to work & get him working his ass off for 40 mins. And if not, there’s no shortage of bench props in ale, bunty etc that have shown they can do a job.Now imagine being one of the other boys playing his heart out and your coach is letting those guys serve up that trash?
Can we call errors Kosi's now pleaseIf you could single out one play, and one player that really summed that up it was this - watching live it was incomprehensible that starling got through there - I think Ford was called out as being offside so he was retiring but even so he was vertical to the ruck and not to blame - Marata runs straight up, parallel to the outside of starling's shoulder, and just lets him go on the inside - I've watched it over and over now and makes less sense each time - what the hell was he doing ? All he had to do was adjust in and lean on him - had an age to do that (and he can't have been worried about being beaten on the outside as it was both covered and he wasn't even looking that way ... ) He's got to go just off that surely? it was that bad on its own, but was hardly doing sterling work besides this... he had a Kosi against the Storm level shocker
So how are we going to be over the next few games on a full size field against teams that are tipped to finish well inside the 8?We were gassed by the time they lost Tapine. They could have beat us with 11 by that stage
