I was sure he was about to unleash Dem and Leka at the 25min mark but he never did. Im sure it would have changed the tide.I think having one big bopper who bends the line would be ideal.
There are certainly advantages of having such a lightweight forward pack with Clark, Barney, Fish and Ford, but if we're not able to see the benefits of it because we're being bashed up the middle, it means we need to change something.
Tbh I don't even think we have a bigger body available at the moment...with Capewah and Niukore on the edges we don't have someone who can just plough forward and suck defenders in.
The thing that I struggle with, is that we seemed to be absorbing the opening exchanges as opposed to dominating them as running over them. That shit is trying. You then need a change of tempo or something to break that hold. It never arrive for us. We held on for too long imo, and Webby wasn't quick enough to pull the trigger when he needed to.
of the ones he even attempted. Hiding next to ruck, walking in the back line, he's an expert at avoiding work.
And no missed tackles for them is what we want, Not Nuikore with 5 missed tacklesI was sure he was about to unleash Dem and Leka at the 25min mark but he never did. Im sure it would have changed the tide.
Fans on here over reacting. It wasn't as bad as they are making out. Lots to like really. Worth watching.
Capewell must of missed 50 then
JFH backed up. Looked for available offload in red zone......I thought JFH played alot better than people are giving him credit for.
Egan was let down by the players around him, he had absolutely no support when he ran out of dummy half, fucking disgraceful from our game plan.
Tane got monstered in the tackle but was easily our best back.
Ford, Niukore, Clarke and to a lesser extent Capewell were ther to take up a 1st grade spot because Webby has no other plan.
Walker was the only bright spot in attack and of course there's talk of him leaving next year.
It's gunna be a long long year with Webby selecting his rubbish favourites AGAIN
This is the point...surely if we have 2 captains we ensure 1 is on the field at all times?? I think webby was responsible for a crap 24 along with sj and tohu being broken(but he still kept picking them) and the reality is he just doesn't rate TMM..last year cnk HAS to be FB, this year Metcalf HAS to be 7..the guy doesn't learn.his bench usage..niukore and capewell on for 60 mins while our 2 up and coming guns sit on the bench..BS. just so depressingI'll be in the minority here, but I didn't expect much attack-wise considering we have new halves and new combinations on the edges. Nor do I think it's fair to get into our attack when you have to base your attack on your defense and positioning.
But that defense (which does not excuse our halves) and interchanges are my real disappointment.
Team – 40 missed tackles, 26 ineffective.
Capewell – 28 made, 8 missed, 3 ineffective.
Metcalf – 19 made, 6 missed, 2 ineffective.
CHT – 22 made, 4 missed, 2 ineffective.
Marata – 21 made, 3 missed, 4 ineffective.
Everyone else was just averagely bad—missing at least 2 and making 1 or 2 ineffective.
On the inverse, the best defenders we had:
Egan – 49 made, 2 missed, 2 ineffective.
Barney – 37 made, 0 missed, 2 ineffective.
Halismia – 10 made, 0 missed, 0 ineffective.
When it came to interchanges...
Why did we only use 7 and not the full 8? Why carry Halismia and Vaimauga if you're only gonna interchange them at the end? Halismia for 26 mins and Vaimauga for 14 mins (although, for context, the Raiders had a very similar interchange to us). Personally, I see more out of Halismia over Capes or Marata, and I'd carry Healey in if you're only going to play Vaimauga for 14 mins, ffs.
If you're going to play Barney at lock, you could have used the interchange to keep one of our captains on the field for the whole game. But instead, we had 25 mins without either captain on the field, which is when they scored 3 out of their 5 tries against us.
