First attempt. Not too far off what I’ll end up with probably. Obviously a couple of these are hugely dependent on RD1 team lists, would’ve liked a couple more real cheap options too.

Fark didn't take you long to bring Zyon Maiu’u on to the bench now hes at Doggies haha.

Nice looking team, gun back 3!

For me I'd be weary of Hamlin Uale and Tuala. BHU looks like he should be decent on fantasy but generally struggles imo

BHU pretty interchangeable tbh, he’s more of a place holder than anything. Same with Tulala. Pick a cheap outside back and middle and I’d be happy lol. New clubs do wonders for certain players. Zyon Maiu’u gonna show out.
Or disappear.
Probably disappear just to spite my team.

Some of your adventurous picks are not that risky after all or at least I don't think they are as I also have the likes of Mozer as my starting hooker. Good side quite a few of them match mine for what that is worth, Royce Hunt is a must on the bench at least for round one. He could well get career high minutes given to him (as I know you know)

I'm iffy about Hunt tbh. I just don't trust the tigers 😂

I have studied Hunt at length when he was supposed to be coming to the warriors. He has played and done well on a number of occassions with big minutes. Big minutes for him is 40 minutes instead of 20. You are right though will le tiger actually give him those minutes? I think they have to. He is an under rated player. He is maybe a 7 out of ten as a plyer who everyone thinks is a four out of ten. Royce has this.

Great minds right? One of my issues is centre. For me it’s the worst position to try and pick. Much rather spend money elsewhere but then any centre other than Farnworth feels bad. I think Leiataua will have a good year but $500k is a lot.

Again we have picked surprisingly similar teams. I also have Ali L at 500K. I wanted to pay $400k but I kept coming back to the fact he should average in the 40s. That is al you need all game long for centre. I also have Jack Bird - you have him at centre while I took him at edge which I know is not advised but I will upgrade and trade my way to a better edge by round 7 at latest.

Hey guys. First time back in this forum thread for the year. I talked up a massive game last year and then finished 16k overall. So yeah, expect more of that from me this season.

Hi Fizurg - just the OG league this year and we are close to capacity - I will put you on the stand by list in case on drop outs.

Give them a deadline of a week then together let's mod kill them Dan. If they are inactive now they will be inactive in the game.
Hi @Dantheman I recomemnd let's make this deadline tonight tuesday at 8pm - then give their spots to the top people on the stand by list.
Let's get our twenty sorted before the trial game rolls around on Saturday so all concerned can watch it with an eye to shoring up picks.
Does that approach work for you Dan? You warned them on Saturday at 10.20am - I said give them a week but I think if they are this inactive it doesn't bode well. Thoughts - cut them tonight?

Sweet as. If the others on standby and any other want I might make a NZ Warriors forum latecomers comp. Depending on how things look closer to the season starting.

Just quickly read through this thread now.
Jack Bird will be in most teams if named at lock. He has massive red flags but a player with Center dual at that price starting at lock is worth the risk. He’s a grubby player that scores well in fantasy when in the forwards. He’s also one of the most frustrating players and exciting players to own.
In a cash league final I was in me and my opponent had very similar teams with only maybe four players different in each squad (this guy finished in the top 30 overall that year). One of the players I had that he didn’t was Jack Bird. An hour before the game started Bird was shifted to starting lock. That was enough for my opponent to message me congratulating me that I had won (Bird scores really well at lock) the first 30 mins went great with him scoring close to a point a minute and I was going to win the comp. Then of course Bird got a penalty (-2 points) then he mouthed off to the ref and they got marched back another ten meters (another -2 points), he mouthed off again and got sin binned (-7 points). So now I’m down 11 points and my player is off the field for 10 mins.
He then comes back on and has to play in the halves, where Bird traditionally scores terribly. So it’s all over for my cash league at this point. Then of course Bird being bird he makes a couple of grubby point scoring runs then sets up a try for another player. Boom i won the cash league.
So I guess I have a soft spot for him. He loves a crab run down the field with a tiny bump off of each defender followed by a lazy offload. 3m gained on the field but 10 points for fantasy.
For Royce Hunt, the Tigers paid a lot of money for him and you would think they would have bigger role than he had at the Sharks. He’s bottom dollar and has a great PPM. If he’s getting 40mins either starting or off the bench he’s a great buy.
If lots of people are buying a player there’s usually a reason and of no one is buying a player there’s usually a reason.
Ali Leiataua I would be wary of. $500k is a heap to pay for a relatively unproven player especially one playing center. You are relying on him having a break out season and averaging 50 points per game to be worth while, which is elite center scoring. Tago is the same price and averaged 49 in 2023 and Howarth who’s $50k cheaper are going to be more popular picks.
I would also only consider RTS if he’s starting at fullback.
The only Warriors I’d look at seriously are Clarke if he gets the starting lock role. He has a great PPM and if he gets 50mins on the field should score really well. Theres the rumour of Halasima starting at lock. If that happened he’s an instant buy.

*warning, this is all advice from a guy that finished 16k overall last year*

Baha that's a great story of Birds redemption! Love it.

I remember one season being in the final of my cash league and had a few trades left, so traded someone to Gallen, who was a 50 point player at that point.
Anyways, I think they pulled him 10 min before the Sharks played, with Jason Bukuya scoring like 70 odd points for my mate to beat me in the final.
Killed me haha

It’s a cruel game. Jordan Rapana scored a try in the last second of the last game to knock me out of a cash league semifinal. I’ve never forgiving him haha. Worst thing is the guy that beat me had $2m less team value.

I see that Euan Aitke in

I am not taking Jack Bird unless he is named to start at 13 and the bench make up suggests he plays at least 60 minutes.
You are right, the trouble is who the hell else is there as a bargain centre or rookie dual positioned player who is primarily a forward.
His price makes him very attractive.
It’s the lowest scoring position so you should spend the least on it.

Yeah totally. It always surprises me when people say they have there team pretty much sorted. Up until the first TLT (vegas really throws a spanner in that) you can’t really be sure of anything.
For sure, if Bird doesn’t look like he will get decent minutes in the forwards he’s not an option. Theres a reason he’s so cheap.
I tend to buck the trend there and actually like to spend up in centers for two reasons. Firstly they can be a nightmare to sort and center roulette burns trades fast. Not having to deal with that can pay off. Secondly it’s the cheapest position to get your guns in. My first team draft this season had Lucas and Fermor. Those two should average low 50s all season and no origin to worry about. Centers sorted. I’ve since ditched Fermor and kept Lucas. I feel Lucas could have a bit more value.
Obviously most people wouldn’t agree with this strategy but the seasons I’ve done it have been by far my best seasons.
