General NSW Cup 2025

Both have room to grow. I am just surprised how most have written Boyd off lol, he was actually solid in the payoff game either side of the ball and imagine if he had Metcalf and a quick fullback to work with out wide instead of playing 6 vs 7
To be fair, he was pretty ordinary in 90% of the games he played.

I think its pretty reasonable to doubt his ability at this point, especially when you take into account his Titans tenure.

Even if you consider the loss of Barnett and general fatigue of our younger forwards late in the season, Boyd just did not nail his moments (and repeatedly at that).

It's a shame because he's an absolute animal at cup level. Sometimes the step up is a mental block.

Boyd's a great depth guy but his ceiling is probably a Jeff Robson type.

He just doesn't have a single elite aspect to his game. Even his much lauded kicking game is just pretty good, not exceptional.

Now if we had prime Jarryd Hayne at fullback, could still work.

Thats what Mal was hinting at during a broadcast. Boyd loses all his time in 1st grade, he cant process all the incoming information fast enough IMHO. Thats why he always looks rushed. I really like Boyd but I cant see him as anything but a great back up here.
Reece Walsh now sees a pyscologist to assist him to handle pressure better
Seems to have worked
TB should have a look at this.

IMHO Walsh has no issues with processing speed, he was just making the wrong decisions with the information he got. Once he fixed that, he took his game to the next level. Fast cognitive processing speed is a highly desirable trait and I'd argue Walsh's is extremely high

Couple that with the fact that Reecey wanted to be the guy and have the big moments vs gifting moments to Tanah and he folds. Tanah needs to grow through it or not. But we can't really afford to wait to see if he will. In spite of his cup form

Yes it will be interesting to see what the leadership team does with Boyd
Do they try and improve his game or let him go end next year
Good halfbacks are as rare as rocking horses
I mean geriatrics like Reynolds Hunt and Dce (?) still going around says there isn’t enough half’s around and with PNG and Perth coming in things get tighter
Nz doesn’t produce many halves Stace and Shaun excepted so if Boyd can be reprogrammed might be a good investment

There’s only one good halfback out of the three you just listed

1st grade Tannah.

Has a simple role to play. He has his seniors to answer too. He'll be to scared to try anything outside of the role webby has assigned to him, Because it seems like he is really hard on himself when he makes mistakes. And goes into his shell.
Case in point, The newy game. Even tho we won. He looked devastated that he almost lost it for us after we secured the win.

Reserve grade Tannah.

He is the man. He is the creator , He is the senior. He has no one to answer to except his captain. Whom he shares the leadership role with.

It's all mental. He folds when the pressure & expectation is on his shoulders in 1st grade. But shines when he has control of the reigns in reserves.

He has it in him to become something special.
Andrew Tangata - Toa seems to bring the best out of him. Hope we get confident Tannah next year.

I think people are including Boyd's kicking performances in Cup, where he has miles more time to execute, when they are comparing the two. Based on NRL alone, I'm not sure if one was cleary better than the other
Add to that the other variable, our kick chase had crumbled by the time Boyd got the seat.

We seemed to get our best kick chase going when any combination of Barnett, Ford, are in the rotation and or Berry doing his thing.

That coach in cup did an amazing job
There was such camaraderie in that team

Yeah Walsh is one of those most gifted processes the game has ever seen. Sometimes a bit reckless with the ball early in his career, but i think with now almost 100 games under his belt, he's learnt when is appropriate to take risks.

He's already closing in on being the best ball playing fullback of all time. In an era where you need the no. 1 jersey to also be a playmaker, he is without doubt the best at it.

I'm buzzing for this Cleary v Walsh era.

Would be like if Johns and Thurston were in their primes at the same time.

Anyway I digress, Boyd has a completely different issue all together.
