NRL NRL Rules

The changes to when trainers can come on the field I am in favour of.

Also the accidental breach in the in goal. The seven-tackle restart was supposed to stop team kicking the ball dead to negate attacking fullbacks like Slater. Bascally stop negative play.

The set restart, now being from the 20 metre line, will keep the ball in play. But, can see it being frustrating as there is less accountability with set restarts. There are also times the referees forget about set restarts and let the game flow. Then randomly pull one up for something you've seen the otherside do.

Why can’t they have a 6 man bench, 8 interchanges but all 6 players used (instead of 4).

I know it will mean fresher players but it covers player safety much better and is less messy.

Aye so the interesting 6 man bench rule is in! (Wish the NRL champ market was still open would of put a lot on panthers with that 20 meter 6 tackle/penalty rule.)

So do we bring in Healey to the top 19, making TMM into our halves cover?
Pros: Healey gets first grade experience, warriors get a out and out hooker to sub in for egan and TMM can just cover what he is best at.
Cons: Healey would stop playing NSW grade games to build on that engine incase egan goes out for a extended time. TMM will very rarely play (Will that make a player rusty?).
Eh: If Egan for a long time, i assume TMM goes back to full utility

Will the 19th player off of the bench be a 2-5 player or a fill in at prop?
If its a 2-5 cover player, they will bearly ever play a game. But when we do need them it could make or break the game. But we have always had pompey to wing, caps to center.
If it is prop then if an injury happens to them we do not lose forward momentum. It also opens up to a full prop bench if there are no injuries and egan is looking good for 80 mins. This would of been prefect if we had bunty or tom ale. Vets who do not need more NSW grade experience but hindsight is 20/20.
The worry with both of these, is that we need to use young players who need that NSW grade game time. Maybe for prop we swap TSS and EIT around every week like we already did for 18th man? But for 2-5 cover im unsure.

Unlike others i don't think this is the death/downfall of a utility player (like TMM). Injuries will result in very weird 6 man bench formations. Plus having players like him means NSW guys get the reps they need. So hooker, halves and some back cover via just one player is huge. Meaning i doubt TMM sees a single NSW grade game this year (might even be extended). But i am hoping to see some more dynamic risk taking on bench useage now. I understand that is a change for safety. But you can pretty aggressively make some interchanges in the middle if your losing momentum in a game anyway. Throwing away your ability to cover an injury for a chance to wrestle it all back or put away the other team.

I go back and forth on the six-man bench rule. At the moment I think it is a net positive in that HIAs/major injuries are fully covered and some players are essentially forced to have the odd week off from playing (it's an unreasonably long season for some of these guys).

I would like to see 1 player on that bench still play NSW cup as well. I know the games and days don't always align but I have no problem if they are unlikely to be used and play the day before or whatever

INTERCHANGE RULES « Teams may interchange four players, up to eight times per match, from a squad
of six players (players 14 to 19 inclusive).

What terrible wording!
There are a few interpretations available

I think ive settled on not liking it, they should have made the 18th man easier to sub in, either on a ruled out HIA/ injury.

It actually feels like this might just devolve into a 3 man bench now and the last player gets just 5 or 10 mins at the end.

Yeah the 6 man bench rule is too much for me, 5 man is a perfect medium surely so teams can carry back cover for injury. I guess the positive is the tactical side of it, will be interesting to see how teams use it. I would suspect 3 of the players will play forward rotation like normal, then coaches will use the last sub depending on what the game situation is/injury cover. It will benefit sides like us with deep rosters. If you have Healey and Taine sitting in the 18th and 19th man spots ready to add some x factor in the last 20 minutes, would be a big plus for us.

Don't really like the 6 again from the 20m line. The issue is teams can't challenge them, and do we not already have too many? I dunno. The other rules are fine.

6 man bench effects us more than anyone else with so many NSW Cup curtain raisers. QLD teams benefit with their players spread across multiple affiliates & rarely Q Cup games are curtain raisers. Broncos playing half their games on Thursday/Friday is a huge advantage in terms of development for their fringeys

If they are clamping down on teams slowing down the ruck, good job.
If they do another one, bang them.

Just keep different 18/19 every week.
