As of the latest official updates, there has been no change to the NRL rule requiring a player to regather the ball before grounding it to score a try. This principle remains consistent with the Laws of the Game, which state that if a player knocks the ball forward, they must regather possession (catch, hold, or grip) before the ball touches the ground, another player, goal post, or crossbar. For a try to be awarded, the player must apply downward pressure on the ball with their fingers, hand, wrist, forearm, or torso.
