I could see a world where Tapine mentioned to Blair that raiders wouldn’t release him for the game. Speculation on my part, but Tapine has represented Māori plenty and would of course been selected

Yeah every player, Timoko, Weekes, Taps, Kris, Levi, Mooney, and Strange didn’t want to play.
I get one in all in but none of them wanted to rep.

It’s a tricky one because I suppose you have to consider that clubs play salaries, but I bet if any were selected for origin they wouldn’t be asked to put the club first

No, it's just a case by case, fish has had a huge year! Look at penriths team named in the trial this week, no top liners playing, just all starting round 1.

Clubs don’t have that power do they?
All the controversy last year over Ponga making himself unavailable.
Theres been like an understanding over the years that players are ruled out over injury, weddings etc and the Rep teams just cop it.
Ponga messed up because he had no valid excuse and chose not to lie like the rest of the players.
Just shits me as you hardly ever see players dropping out of Australian or State of Origin sides it’s always the All Star teams or the Pacific teams.

Can recall Tohu’s missed many internationals and games like this over the years, whether it was his choice or the club asking not to being vulnerable to injuries? Has he ever played an all star game? Likely would have been picked over the years?

I think Tohu just didn’t want to play to be honest.
Hasn’t played for the Kiwis since 2016.
Played 1 All Star game in 2019.
He would’ve been first name written down on both team lists if available.

That was just an all round poor decision and yes, SK needs to shoulder the majority of the responsibility for that in my opinion.

As the coach, I agree. SBW was so full of himself too and was never deserving at that time. Was he just returning from injury and was made available? Can’t remember exactly how it went down?

I honestly think if we did it'd kill something in the warrior's culture that is not easily replaced. There is a sort of trust and understanding they currently have with webby. That he gets the "culture", that the warrior's is home to Māori culture. So i'd be very cautious to brake that trust, although I understand the concern.
