NRL NRL 2025 General Recruitment Thread

Yeah agree thought he was the glue and. Mister reliable in their pack.
A boring reliable dependable player one that’s needed in every team
Think there’s only 22 or so signed at titans? Some impressive train and trial players too like Micheal Molo with big nrl experience. Seems like a big clean out, not sure Jolliffe was one that should be though?

I wonder what the tv networks will do about R360? Will the NRL and union put conditions in their rights that block R360 locally?

Will the networks want to risk the league and union viewership leaving their platforms to follow R360 elsewhere?

I think we’re in for a fascinating few years, similar to the super league period where some massive structural changes to the sport, player base and viewer numbers will happen.

Nobody will watch 360 lol, league is tribal who the heck wanna watch London Thunders vs Qatar Chiefs 🤣 Sure they might have league super stars playing in the wrong code like Papa doing 30 punts/game and will regress to amateur level, do anyone really set your alarm for the Indian Premier League cricket with all the superstars on display? NRL fans will stick with their teams willing their teams to win the title as usual

Other part I can't get my head around is what position would a player like NAS be playing and how good would he actually be considering he has been playing league for years now. I kind of get it with backs converting over but some forwards being talked about seems weird. Even Haas would be a strange one. It's a completely different game for props

None of it really adds up for me. Who are the coaches and staff? Who are the sponsors? Have the team names been copyrighted? Why is it only really mentioned in RL media? Which actual union players have supposedly signed for them or are being pursued? It is meant to start in less than a year, and there has been no progress outside of handful of non-union sportsmen being approached to play in it.

If Haas goes for $2M a year tax free oil money, R360 lasts two years, falls over because no one watches or cares, then comes back to the NRL, there is no way the administration will blackball him.

Hell Val Holmes went off and tried NFL when he was at the peak of his earning potential.

NRL probably needs a shorter season, it’s extremely physically demanding and some of these players seem to be saying fuck that I’m not getting flogged in another preseason followed by 30 odd high intensity games if your a rep player

If they call them the Chiefs they'll get a letter from NZ Rugby.

The players and their management you would expect would have more details on R360 and how it would work. From what the media are reporting there is a lot of unknowns.

There was talk of broadcasting on YouTube.

Also $15 million per team. A rugby union side and squad typically has more players than a league squad. That amount would need to be spread across a lot of players. The figure is also close to the speculated NRL cap for the new broadcast deal.

The players are meant to be centrally contracted and go into a pool. It will be interesting how they do their $15 million per team from there.

All of the players so far would be getting signed for more than they are on now. You'd expect there would be players who aren't stars or on a lower amount to fill out the squads.

The travelling competition sounds interesting. Can see it being a novelty and drawing some crowds initially. Can also see it played in front of empty stadiums.

Think it will end up being similar to the USFL or XFL when new leagues have tried to compete with the NFL. One thing the NRL and the union competitions have going for them. They are established. A known entity for broadcasters and sponsors.

Brisbane chair Karl Morris has urged Payne Haas to consider his legacy at the club and the opportunities that come with being a Broncos legend as the powerhouse prop weighs up a mega-offer from rebel rugby union competition R360.

This masthead revealed at the weekend that Haas was giving serious consideration to a life-changing deal from R360 given the amount of money that is believed to be on the table – it is understood Haas could earn upwards of $3 million a season with the breakaway competition.

The Broncos would love to keep Haas, but neither they nor any other rugby league club can match the money that is available to switch codes.

Money, Morris insists, shouldn’t be the only factor that Haas considers as he makes a call on his next move. The 25-year-old, who has just under 12 months remaining on his existing deal at the Broncos, has the opportunity to finish his rugby league career as an all-time great and remain a part of the Broncos well beyond his playing days.

“We’ll do our best to keep him,” Morris said.

“We want him to stay at the Broncos for the rest of his career. We want the to be one of the greats of the club and leave a legacy here.”

Haas is well on the way to doing just that, having helped inspire the Broncos to a drought-breaking premiership only last month. In the end, that title win over Melbourne may work against the Broncos given it was one of the few remaining items on Haas’ bucket list.

The Samoa and NSW forward has achieved almost everything the game as to offer and his head has now seemingly been turned by a new challenge, not to mention the opportunity to set he and his family up for the rest of their lives.

There has been talk Haas could earn the equivalent of $5 million a season once tax incentives are factored into the R360 offer. It’s an insane amount of money and the whisper is that R360 officials would like to announce Haas when they go public with their first slew of signings in coming weeks – they are expected to begin naming names after rugby union’s international season is over in the next fortnight.

“There is a wonderful opportunity for him to have a long association with the Brisbane Broncos past his playing career as well,” Morris said.

“He has the chance to be an all-time great at the Broncos. That will bring with it some long-term opportunities for Payne at the club.”

Those opportunities will go up in dust if Haas elects to leave the code. The NRL has promised to hand down 10 year bans to any player or agent who becomes entangled with R360 and while there remains a level of cynicism at Rugby League Central, there is also a determination to come down hard on any defectors.

If Haas does decide to defect in coming weeks, it could mean he has played his last game for the Broncos if the NRL deems that any ban must take immediate effect.

That would be a sledgehammer blow to the Broncos in their bid to defend their title

All that hype of switching to Samoa to win the world cup lol, Toa $amoa

NAS will be a lock who can't jump or catch kick offs and Papenhuyzen with his 30m punts before breaking his syndesmosis, this is like Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson are being rumored to join the new Arab baseball league 🤣 The whole thing is a joke funded by billionaires who want to watch a clown show
