NRL NRL 2025 General Recruitment Thread

He's only 20. Turns 21 next July.

But I guess in his defence maybe things are not healthy there so who knows.
My forecast is for them to be worse next year. Drinkwater turns 29 in May 2026

I watched him closely last year, physically struggles in defense IMO. But he can break the line out of nowhere with some magic. Wasn't up to NRL playing 6, looked really uncomfortable. The whole team sucked to be fair to him. I am not sure what he would be worth, but he has some way to go development wise. Cowboys need to keep him. Not an option for us IMO, not that anyone has really said that.

There’s been a poster on the dragons forum that’s put his neck on the line and said they’ve signed Pezet in a 4 year deal for a few days now and today mentioned it will be announced Thursday. They all been giving him shit saying the balls on him to post that, but he’s sticking to his guns. Will be interesting to see and seems they are the biggest threat for Metcalf

If this goes through will this extinguish their interest in Metcalf?

Interesting a rumour has popped up on cowboys forum saying they seriously looking at releasing Drinkwater. Think we offered him a contract at one stage

I would be interested in kicking Scott Drinkwaters tires. He will be looking for a retirement contract as turns 29 next may. Reportedly on 750 000 for the 2027 season. He is signed through the end of 2027 so this would be a major decision to release him early and doesn't even free up that much cap relative to a one million dollar player. This would be a major decision to let him go and the only possible reason I can dream up is that they want to offer Purdue the Full back spot. It seems like a desperation move and gamble. Surely common sense will prevail and Cowboys will snap out of this. I think they should keep him to the end of 2027 as per his contract.

IF he was offered to the Warriors then I don't think we could afford both him and CNK so it would have to be a trade.

Looking at Drinkwater’s season, he’s gone a bit backwards in his stats he’s offered comparatively to other seasons and a tackle efficiency of 68% isn’t great. Can play fullback and five eighth but the stat I’m looking at is 11 tries and 24 try assists from 24 games. He can set up tries

I am pulling this post out of my wazoo but here goes.
There is an article on Zero tackle and code sports about when is your championship window. Ours is 1-3 years according to the author. Ie 2026. 2027 and 2028.
He would fit in as a final piece of the jigsaw puzzle if we could find a way to off load charnze to fit Scott in.
Next year Leka will be one year older and wiser, as will Vaimauga. Leka for all his brilliance was inconsistent this year. Surely he becomes more consistent next year.
As far as Metcalf goes maybe no matter what happens after November 1 we put our foot down and say we are not releasing him for 2026. And we make a run at it next year.
Anyway this is just wild fan talk. I really think we will be one of the last clubs to chase Scott if he is available as I believe we offered Charnze his two year extension for a reason. I think we like him and what he does, rightly or wrongly, and we are committed to him being our full back the next two years.
Maybe if I am Tigers I take Drinkwater and they off load Bula like they want to.

a glass is either half full or half empty depending on how you look at it. The advantage of CNK that has been pointed out to me is that he makes metres and helps win the arm wrestle. He won't help on offence at all. But he is there contributing yardage and that pays off by the end of the game. If we are going to have CNK though we need a ball playing 13 which we don't have. and an elite halves combo.

I'm a huge Drinkwater fan, and would be more than happy for us to sign him on 800k and a big contract, say 3 or 4 years even.

After the end of our season this year and Webby's talk about a few missing pieces, I nearly created a thread about who everyone thinks could be the missing piece to take us to our first premiership.

I have no doubt in my mind that if we signed Drinkwater, we would win a premiership in the next 4 years. Creates from the back better than most imo, and given how bad the Cowboys have been the last 2 years it's pretty mad how many tries he's set up and scored.

1000x Yes....if this is legit I would be so stoked

I vote start the thread. It has been a while since you started one and will give something to discuss.
