NRL NRL 2025 General Recruitment Thread

Looks like Lachie Galvin is going to go to market at the end of this year, for 2027.

Tigers currently have Luai on over a mill, and 19 year old Fainu on $500k until the end of 2027, I think they're going to find it tough to give Lachie a huge extension given they already have about 1.8mill tied up in those 2 halves.

I wonder where hell end up

Parramatta suddenly need a stand off for 2026 and beyond
And by all accounts Galvin was a parramatta tragic growing up as a little boy

Sounds like there’s a bit going on. Raiders got Brailey and there’s a bit of talk that raiders want him early and knights want Dylan Brown early but eels want 2 players in return. Ravalawa given a lifeline and rabbits have picked him up. Roosters keen on recruiting Francis Molo

Not surprising - he was asking for a release last year.

He will be short odds to go to Parra - who need a 6.

No doubt the Bulldogs will be interested but they need to upgrade lil-sexy at 7, don't need another 6.

This is hilarious sleuthing

Galvin liked the following comment on his latest instagram post (it's since been unliked)

"We love you bro. It’s time to come home. You are meant to be written in parra eels history. The first 6 to end the premiership drought! You know it is embedded deep in your soul! Come home king. 👑"

Both Offa and Greig are significantly bigger bodies then anything we have at the minute.

Maybe time to bring one of the big fellas home?

I'd probably take Matterson too haha
Greig’s numbers seem to be deteriorating each season, not sure if he’s lazy or the system at eels isn’t suiting him? I’ve wondered about Ofahengaue and whether he could be someone we’re interested in? Still putting decent numbers defensively and offering decent run metres. Matterson still putting out decent numbers too, but doesn’t seem a good clubman and I think it wasn’t a good look for him a season or two back when he had to choose between a game suspension and a monetary fine, and he chose the game suspension

Yeah I'm always torn about those guys like Matterson and Tyrell May. Performs well on the field, but then potentially not great for club culture and off field. Buuuut, we need to be winning on the field to then attract the better/top performers.

So what do you fix first...culture and off field stuff or start winning and sort that out later?

Glad I don't have to decide these things haha

We’ve got an uphill battle to recruit players with the roosters having a lot of money to spend, and now so do eels. Still think our best bet is Kiwis keen to come home. Ofahengaue could fit that being from NZ? Interesting he’s starting at prop for eels, wonder if they’ve got another prop lined up or Jack Williams goes from an edge to middle?

Ofa doesn't play like a big body, more a mobile worker the last couple years. He's moved around a little and never given a massive role in teams, I'm not sure why, he's just a bit average. But bang for buck he offers the most out of the Eels fire sale to be honest. Maybe Cartwright, but he is a hard one to read. Greig looks slow motion whenever he plays NRL, if he wasn't a kiwi he wouldn't even be worth talking about on this forum TBH.

His last game shows he played 28 minutes, not sure what minutes he plays on average or is capable of? He’s listed as a lock primarily over prop, so is perhaps a bit more mobile than the out and out prop that you mentioned. He doesn’t spring to mind too much for his ball play at lock, but playing Barnett there says we’re not too worried about ball play and more about size against certain teams. Ofahengaue 6 foot 3 and 115kg and last year averaged 114 metres and 94% tackle efficiency. Turns 30 in September so probably has a couple of years with middles hitting their peak years around now and played plenty of nrl at about 197 games
