International New Zealand Kiwis

Brimson switched with the blessing of the ARL, which was a factor in the IRL allowing him.

There is also the fact that Brimson really has had no opportunity to represent the Kangaroos since the Nines tournament. While Ponga pretty obviously would have been picked in '23 and '24 if he made himself available.

I think the ball is really in the ARL's court. If they say nah, we wanted to pick him in 2024 and don't give it their stamp of approval, is the IRL really going to go against the ARL? They are really just a puppet or the ARL anyway, aren't they??

Maybe that is outweighed by Ponga having a higher standing than Brimson does, and the threat of pissing off a big star that is already a Union-flightrisk? I just don't think the Brimson decision totally guarantees Ponga can switch, even if he wants to.

The Tier system is a farce anyway.

In reality Aussie is a Tier of its own.

NZ and England are always struggling financially and they're niche sports with small player bases in our countries.

So true, how's our pathway equivalent to the Australian system lol, there are probably more polynesian players in the Aussie system than the entire NZ league community

I didn't want to post this in the recruitment thread for fear of a ban as it's not related to that, but there's currently debate going on there about Mulitalo's commitment to the Kiwis after he didn't qualify for Q L D. One thing you cannot deny is that he hasn't let us down yet in his games wearing the black jersey and was a huge contributor to the thrashing of the Kangaroos in 2023.

He’s been one of the most passionate players the Kiwis have had in his limited time in the jersey.
In interviews he said he’s not going to play for Samoa, the Kiwis are it for him now.
I believe Leota also wanted to play for 💙 Mighty NSW but didn’t qualify.
I won’t hold it against players that wanted to play Origin, the lure would be very appealing.

Kiwi's need to hire a salesman to get these NZ players. Like in America when the universities go after high school athletes. Have to go after Katoa and the origin bunch.

Kiwis planting a seed of a conversation where Ponga said if he could play for QLD Morons and the Kiwis, he’d switch
The ruling, combined with the fact Ponga made himself unavailable for Kangaroos selection last year - before being forced to be available by the NRL, and then overlooked by Mal Meninga
Is this for real? On what grounds can the nrl force him?

If Haas and Tino

Hopefully Oz may soon not be in thier own tier....even just Haas and Tino rejecting them alone has a big impact on relative pack strength between Oz and other countries

Have a feeling the next 5 years might be a game changer for international results as more a d more heritage players ditch the green and gold.. ....a possible golden age (hopefully!)

Also with more of our stars getting NRL contracts I only see us getting better and stronger

When they finally host an Origin in New Zealand which is supposed to happen within a few years, it will be quite interesting to see the makeup of the Origin sides. QLD Morons are often fielding up to 6 or 7 players who are born in New Zealand but play for the Island nations and a few more who are heritage players like Reece Walsh. Not as many in the Blues, the way it is going there probably will be a few more. Will be quite amusing having the game in Auckland and good number of these guys playing.
