International New Zealand Kiwis

Stacey Jones to call out Kalyn Ponga to play for Kiwis. Being discussed on foxsports.

Cronk and Meninga said its not possible due to Tier 1 to Tier 1. That was always my understanding too. Wonder what Stacey is thinking.
Has he played for the Kangaroos? Does playing Origin or 9s count against him & make him ineligible?
If so, Playing for NZ A should count also. Ben Te Kahu & Jack Howarth should be made ineligible for Australia!!! Lol.

Smell Mafinger knew what was going on. That's why the end of last year he made a big deal of Kayln being unavailable for the end of year tests. When Kayln decided to be available. Thick eyebrows didn't pick him anyway. Absolute Charlie Uniform November Tango!!

My conspiracy theory on this is that Ponga's camp has released the "Kalyn wants to play union again" chat as ammo come rep season. If the ARL doesn't give their blessing for him to play for Kiwis, then he'll threaten to go to rugby, which would probably be a bigger loss for the ARL than letting him play for the Kiwis (especially when the NRL has it over union here in Aus and continues to weaken union's stranglehold in NZ - so they won't want to give union any more "wins").

I don't think anyone wants to see playing changing rep allegiances each year, but given the free movement of people around AU/NZ/Pacific Islands/etc, you'd think there will have to come a time where they'll allow players to rep multiple tier 1 countries (after a reasonable stand-down). It's been great to see players like Ponga and Gagai represent their culture in the All Stars game - I don't see why someone with parents from different countries shouldn't be allowed to represent their heritage (within reason - e.g., not flip-flopping year-to-year).

From my understanding the only rule stopping ponga is "If a player has represented Australia in official international matches, they may still switch if they've met the IRL eligibility for said country and not played for another country for 3 years".

Seems like mal and co are mixing up NRL rules and IRL rules. Wouldn't surprise me if Aussies are trying to throw around there weight like that.

So I asked Grok and basically Aussie 9s is 2019 and grey area regarding jf it’s a test status and binding or not, and RTS and DWZ were able to switch even after Tonga and Samoa were upgraded to tier 1 status

Ponga just can’t play for Queensland after he represents the kiwis

I reckon if he wants he can arm wrestle NRL into letting him play for us with a ruling and kiwi exits precedents, great for the game too and Queensland still has Walsh

Best to negotiate privately, if they are a pest then make a scene publicly, literally kiwis have been selected for island nations recently

I don't know if he has had a change of heart or didn't think things through well enough earlier in his career.

From what I recall there was a lot of pressure on him earlier in his career with NZ trying to rush him in to the Kiwis and Queensland rushing him in to the Origin side which then means he's eligible for Australia. I remember he was talking how much he wanted to play Origin.

The decision really should be what country you want to play for or recognise as being from. Not country vs a state.

Should be where you are born and that should include Origin!

So Stacey's plan is to get them to change the Origin rules so Kiwis can play? If this works with Ponga, Stace is a genius.
