Has he played for the Kangaroos? Does playing Origin or 9s count against him & make him ineligible?Stacey Jones to call out Kalyn Ponga to play for Kiwis. Being discussed on foxsports.
Cronk and Meninga said its not possible due to Tier 1 to Tier 1. That was always my understanding too. Wonder what Stacey is thinking.
Apparently playing international 9s is what makes him ineligible.Has he played for the Kangaroos? Does playing Origin or 9s count against him & make him ineligible?
It's becoming so complicated with guys jumping to and fro I have lost a lot of interestI don't know if he has had a change of heart or didn't think things through well enough earlier in his career.
From what I recall there was a lot of pressure on him earlier in his career with NZ trying to rush him in to the Kiwis and Queensland rushing him in to the Origin side which then means he's eligible for Australia. I remember he was talking how much he wanted to play Origin.
The decision really should be what country you want to play for or recognise as being from. Not country vs a state.
Should be where you are born and that should include Origin!I don't know if he has had a change of heart or didn't think things through well enough earlier in his career.

But what about Toni Carroll.Should be where you are born and that should include Origin!
We don't need him but we want himWe don't need Kalyn Ponga
It’s not about needing him, it’s about annoying the fuck out of the Australian RL hierarchy. I say go for him.We don't need Kalyn Ponga
Go for him then don't play him...lolIt’s not about needing him, it’s about annoying the fuck out of the Australian RL hierarchy. I say go for him.
Fuck those Aussies!
We don't need him but we want him
So Stacey's plan is to get them to change the Origin rules so Kiwis can play? If this works with Ponga, Stace is a genius. My conspiracy theory on this is that Ponga's camp has released the "Kalyn wants to play union again" chat as ammo come rep season. If the ARL doesn't give their blessing for him to play for Kiwis, then he'll threaten to go to rugby, which would probably be a bigger loss for the ARL than letting him play for the Kiwis (especially when the NRL has it over union here in Aus and continues to weaken union's stranglehold in NZ - so they won't want to give union any more "wins").
I don't think anyone wants to see playing changing rep allegiances each year, but given the free movement of people around AU/NZ/Pacific Islands/etc, you'd think there will have to come a time where they'll allow players to rep multiple tier 1 countries (after a reasonable stand-down). It's been great to see players like Ponga and Gagai represent their culture in the All Stars game - I don't see why someone with parents from different countries shouldn't be allowed to represent their heritage (within reason - e.g., not flip-flopping year-to-year).
I just assumed that’s what it’s all about. What if Stacey's plan is to get them to change the Origin rules so Kiwis can play. If this works with Ponga, Stace is a genius.
You'd think adding another pool of elite talent would improve the product. Aussie fans might disagree, even though half the QLD team was born in Auckland.I just assumed that’s what it’s all about.
The current rules are ridiculous.
Wonder what Queensland fans would say if their whole team was KiwisI just assumed that’s what it’s all about.
