Id argue being coached by mal is their main issue first and foremost. Hard to expect players to move there if the coach refuses to.
They don’t kick a ball until November when preseason starts, he is there every second week and moves there at the end of June. The issue is and always was that it’s easier to travel internationally than it is to go to Perth. The game is expanding quicker than it can sustain. If the tax free dollars weren’t there PNG would go worse than Perth without a doubt.

Two seasons in PNG could be worth an extra 200k+ in hand to the lower earners let alone the guys who earn big dollars. I’m sure as shit doing it short term for that sort of money 😂

I think we'd all like to say that we'd do it, but two years is a long time, especially when you're in the moment.

Just ask the lockdown boys.

This wasn't really where I was going with the comment. I just find it super interesting that Perth is having so many issues attracting talent, where as PNG isn't (so far).

The truth is, none of us actually know.
That Foxsports article contradicts itself.
1. First up, it says *categorically* "The Canterbury Bulldogs have made a $1 million call…"
2. It then quotes 9news's NRL pundit Danny Weidler, "His asking price is around the million dollars a year. I don’t think the Dogs were willing to go anywhere near that."
Note his use of the words "I don’t think".

Was their opening statement a blatant lie? We’ll soon find out.

I reckon that all the other reports that have been popping up, such as on zerotackle, are just rehashing what Weidler has said. Maybe he’s correct. Who knows.

Remember that when negotiations are ongoing, the people involved say all kinds of things to give the impression that they’re not really very interested at all.

Interesting that Mt Smart has indicated it wants this sorted by the weekend. They want everyone to be able to just concentrate on winning. That’s good.
So I reckon they’d willingly pay some good money just to get the deal done and the whole thing out of the way. If Mets's agent were to ask for $100k for each year, they would *ahem* accede to this request.

Govt employees do compound living in 3rd world countries for a quarter of what these blokes will earn. PNG govt are putting out all the stops too, private islands, charters etc. 1.2m for Luai over there is 500k odd more per season in the hand. It’s why not won’t be sustainable though, two years these guys will have earned what they need and they’ll bounce.

The top PNG players would almost double their take home pay

PNG: Get paid $1m a season = keep $1m net
vs
Australia: Get paid $1m a season = keep $563k net

Crazy money

Have read on the dragons forum that Metcalf wants to leave immediately and will sign with them on a 4 year deal. Definitely BS as he’s just met with club officials so there’s no way he would have agreed to terms that quickly.

If he does leave this season, is there any players you guys would be keen on from the dragons in a player swap? They’ve got some talented young forwards coming through which could be roadblocked due to the big money Metcalf will command. Getting one of the Couchman boys would be solid.

Kinda sad for the players putting their brains on the line every week, earning 200K-500K having almost half taxed out and their careers can end any moment, or if they're lucky enough to have a full career, it's only about 10 years and if they are not educated/specialized in other fields, they're stuck in the football community for post-retirement careers

We want him out immediately too lol. There are probably a few that wants out of a 0:9 hell hole right now, I'd pinch a player and save the rest for any stars on the market

It appears that he has sooked it and there's no excuse for him but I can imagine his frustration with his injuries.
Had the world at his feet and it could be all over. Sad situation for all concerned
He could have just stayed and worked hard and been a good number 6 for us. It’s childish. Been a few decent 6s who were the main men for their sides like Lockyer, Fittler and Wally Lewis.. fixation with being a 7 is weird

Probably another reason the Bulldogs don’t want to sign him is Galvin doesn’t want to move to 6 to accomodate Luke’s 7 ambition.

Frustrations of endless injuries must be very real. That's what I am pointing out
