Metcalf 26 reminds me so much of SJ 24 I am wondering if the Sharks performance was the equivalent of Titans 66:6 and once the new 7 get to play his game again the performance quality returns? I know we beat baby broncos then lost narrowly to Dogs and Raiders away but performance and consistency were there and should have won if Gee and crew weren’t cheating for dogs or CHT could kick goals, we also lost 3 outside backs vs dogs

I can't see Metcalf playing full back. Apart from defence he will end up injuring his legs again even easier.

My long term hope was that Metcalf plays 7 this year and possibly next and then maybe moves to 6 when/if Jett comes into first grade. Not sure now.

This is going to be interesting how it plays out. Either
1. Boyd struggles over the next few weeks being the main man again and we realise the first few weeks of the season were an outlier. Metcalf comes back in at 7 when fully fit and match ready and Body moves to NSW Cup
2. Boyd crushes it and we realise that Boyd has to be the 7 this year and that perhaps him and Metcalf are not going to work as a halves combo. Then what the hell do we do with Metcalf when he is back from injury. Throw him back into the 6 jumper and try again or put him on the bench (I feel he didn't look ready to be back in 1st grade. He looked ginger about going into contact which is understandable).

Metcalf has the hallmarks of being a great 6 but a combination of returning from injury/low confidence in his body/confusion about the role he is supposed to be playing (remember that before his last injury he was leading the Daly M's and was the form player of the comp and now he comes back in and is the non-dominant half behind someone he was miles ahead of last year and having to play a different style of football). And Webby probably did not tell him he is the non-dominant half but subconsciously he may have felt that and it affected his game. He did not look physically ready either. It is a big concern if he comes back and gets injured again.

I think for Metcalf to play his best he needs to be in the 7. It may be that it becomes a shootout for the 7 jumper. All I know is that we can't spend half the season trying to figure it out. With our current backline we need our halves and forwards to play like they did in the first 3 weeks for us to have any shot. Who knows maybe he can make that 6 jumper work and those two peak towards the back end of the season. We have a lot of good younger halves who can step up as well along with CHT.

I think Mets's injury has saved Webby. All he has to do is ease him off the bench in NSWCup and first grade. He can do this and massage Metcalfs ego by saying it to protect his health. See if we can make it to finals with that framework and then reassess during the off season.

Hopefully Metcalf can finish the year uninjured

I think that you are 100% right.

I actually kind of want to see what Webby will do in these situations because I get the feeling if Metcalf was not injured he would be at 6 again and if CNK was not injured he would still be at centre next week (which would be ridiculous).

I want to see if Webby can make the right decisions when everyone is fit.

Sad for us Warriors fans that Luke has another injury.
People have short memories that he was the form half of the comp until injured last year.
We didnt lose many games with him playing & lost a lot more than we won without him.
Feel sorry for him that he probably will never ever get back to his best again.
True Warriors fans wouldnt be putting the boot in . Sympathies to Luke
True Warrior fans should be questioning Webby's decision to rush Metcalfe back into first grade, and, in so doing, breaking up a very cohesive halves combination for the first two rounds of the season.

I noticed that too. Gave Boyd a dirty look but then when Clarke walked past he got a big smile and a laugh.
There's no doubt Metcalf is a bit salty for not getting the number 7 Jersey back on return from injury.
Probably feels like a demotion for him, just like if any of us had a period of time off work and we come back to find someone else is doing our role and we have to do something else we don't want to do.

What dirty look are you on about ?

Remember everyone talking about the great Boyd/ CHT combo

Round 1 halves: Boyd/ CHT

Round 2 halves: Boyd/ CNK (71m) / CHT (KO 9m)

Round 3 halves: Boyd/ Hanson

So Boyd and CHT are still very much an untried pair. Boyd actually looked his best when CNK and Hanson played bit roles leaving Boyd to fully dominate the halves pairing.

This whole season is a mindfuck, you're boyding me out man.

How much do you reckon they practiced the combination of Boyd and Hanson or Boyd and CNK compared to Boyd and CHT in preseason? There’s also last season they had time together, but that period reflects better on CHT than Boyd because CHT was among a winning combination before Metcalf picked up his injury last year

Does anyone remember our forward pack dominating in the first two rounds also?

I mean we scored the least amount of points in the first half of the raiders game. It was 8-6 going into the 2nd half. It was our defense keeping them to 6 for a full half where we were on our own tryline for ages that set us up to dominate the 2nd. Other half combinations have had more even scoring distribution over the game time.
