Eight hundred K seems to be where people feel comfortable (the unscientific method of taking the one million dollar range and chopping off two hundred K to price in the injury).

The problem with that, which I keep coming back to, is while it sounds nice in theory, it is what Marata and Barney get paid(ish) and Less than what JFH is on.

In which case I think you certainly leave the door open for a top halfback to gamble on the open market (which is the thing the Warriors should be trying to avoid given the Warriors unique set of problems as players in that market place).

Is an Injured Dally M player really worth the same as a top second rower to the Warriors ? (seven fifty to eight fifty range)

Some good points. If Luke can get through a season without a major injury he is worth a million a season. $900k at a minimum. If he had gone through this season without injury and won the Daly M he would be getting over a million without doubt. Some people really underestimate how important a half back is to winning a comp. Nearly every season the team who wins the NRL has a superstar half or even two superstar half's (Look at the last 10 years - Cleary/Luai, Munster/Hughes, Morgan/Thurston, Keary/Cronk). The only team that didn't was the 2016 Sharks and that because the Storm let a try go begging at the end. Even then the Sharks had Maloney. You think the Panthers would have won 4 in a row without Cleary. Absolutely no way. That's why they get the most money.

Other clubs would give it to Luke if we don't, however anyone thinking of making a play for him will be seriously concerned about the amount of serious injuries he has had now. That may work in our favour actually.

The Warriors will also be very concerned about that. If Luke has another long-term injury next year (especially to his legs) it will make it very tough for the club to make a decision.

But I don't think anyone better is going to come along so we probably take the gamble on him on a shorter term deal. If Tanah goes really well this year there is no reason Luke couldn't move to 6. But if he ends up losing any speed due to this latest injury, that is an important part of his game gone.

I really rate him. I hope he recovers from this injury as best as possible.

I know that we tend to think about the chronic damage from multiple injuries as a concern and it is....

Höwever in such cases as this, where the athlete has had multiple injuries yet returned to peak performance, one must also consider that it tells you that they have very good regenerative properties and are excellent at injury rehabilitation.

His specialist will have a good sense of how he is doing post this injury in terms of the long term prognosis and his team Doctor will vicariously and through direct observation be even more well informed.

I would not worry about where his injury goes from here, the club were bang on the money with Volkman, and they knew Tohus knee was not going to get better with rest and treatment.

They know what they are doing.

He is young enough, that is the biggest thing he has on his side.

Can you put a clause on a contract re: injuries.

I.E base contract is 800k, play 18 or more games in a year you get bumped up 200k?

As long as we don't do anything shitty like Titans did to Puhulu and don't play him for that last game, in order to save a bit of money lol

Yup base salary with bonuses, other new teams might give full contract closer to a million but that's probably out the window after this ACL...we're pretty much in the box seat to extend him....unless he's sick of this and wants to go home and retire

Thats pretty sobering
Jye linnane is somber reading as well. I think he's played 15 games of nsw cup & 1st grade since 2021. Something like that. 2 acl injuries on the same knee in 12 months.

On the bright side, He can start the season til his ACL is gone again. And Mets will be fully recovered from his ACL injury by then 🤣 Jokes! I don't want the fan voodoo curse to hit any of our players!

You'd be happy to know he did BOTH knees so hopefully 2 reconstructed knees will mean no more knee ruptures. I'm still shocked how Luke rupture the same ACL the second time, the grafts are usually very solid, the halfback from Otago who was on the fringe of making the ABs has no ACLs on both knees

Can we just tape Jye and Luke together so they can both run of thier good knees?

Oh, So the other knee as well? I don't know if that's any better! ? Lol. But fuck, We need some good luck with our halves after SJ and all his injuries as well.

Linnane is only 19 right. "potential" sort of signing
The Knights fans say he was well ahead of Fletcher Sharpe before the knee
