I feel for Luke. It must be devastating having the ACL go just as you're proving all the doubters wrong and your whole future is opening up.

Poor guy picked up a knee injury in his first game back after acl injury. He’s 22 and Metcalf 26, Metcalf must be sick to death of all the rehab he’s had to do. Really feel for the guy, he’s gone from the high of a first born child and now the low of his season over after he was having the breakout season he said he was going to haveNRL physio has posted an identical tackle to Jonah Pezet for his ACL last year.
When you look at both it is 100% the mechanism of the tackle. Nothing else
Assuming he wants to keep playing i would want to see the club offer another contract to him, wont be the massive one we were all thinking but I would still want him at the club when hes back and will still have 4-5 years left of his careerPoor guy picked up a knee injury in his first game back after acl injury. Balls in his court now on whether his long term idea was to head back to Aussie or if he’s interested in hanging around and bringing his young family up here for a bit. Obviously family is at home but he seems to have a real connection to the club would think he’d lean towards hanging around if he’s to continue his career? Would imagine clubs are still interested, but doubt offers are anywhere near what was on the table prior. If he is to stay though we need to be considerate this history is there and we need to be carrying 4 nrl ready halves in our squad as insurance as we are. Remember Braith Anasta saying not many clubs have 4 first grade halves when he was discussing roosters and might make sense that we’re one of those teams and considered this a possible outcome for Metcalf this season? You can’t dig your head in sand though and not see there’s an issue for him surrounding injuries unfortunatelyAssuming he wants to keep playing i would want to see the club offer another contract to him, wont be the massive one we were all thinking but I would still want him at the club when hes back and will still have 4-5 years left of his career

I don’t agree with this post. Maybe not offering him $1m a season, let’s put an injury discount in. However he’d more than proven he is a top quality half. Again I get that it’s also not his first ACL, but 7 years on & not linked to his recent hamstring issues. Absolutely we offer him a significantly upgraded deal. He’s not super young but still early in his NRL career & has plenty of great years ahead.I cant see a world where the club can offer metclaf another deal, I think the club needs to invest that money into boyd.
The club cant risk it with metcalf anymore. So unfortunate for him but he's not worth a long term big money deal, and probably never was really.
I think this is a blessing for the club, who was about to pull the trigger on a big deal.
Sorry but he's never once in his career put a full season together.
Time to move on from metcalf.
We still have Metcalf for next year, getting him a deal elsewhere would be good for morale. Dumping him out in the cold could put players offside.I cant see a world where the club can offer metclaf another deal, I think the club needs to invest that money into boyd.

Im in between you both. We have to invest significant time and money into another half. Best case scenario Metcalf plays half of next season coming off back to back injury disrupted seasons. Thats not ideal considering were we are as a team. We should be making a run this year and be serious contenders next. I think Mets could get Boyd's extension and Boyd gets an upgrade.I don’t agree with this post. Maybe not offering him $1m a season, let’s put an injury discount in. Best case scenario we get him back on the field in 9 months time - about 4 rounds in to 2026.Im in between you both. We have to invest significant time and money into another half. He'll get an upgraded deal - just unlikely to be a mammoth deal that was on the cards.I cant see a world where the club can offer metclaf another deal, I think the club needs to invest that money into boyd.

I dont see them dumping him in the cold and there will be other clubs willing to take that risk.We still have Metcalf for next year, getting him a deal elsewhere would be good for morale. Dumping him out in the cold could put players offside.
Torn ACL .Gone for the season.Boyd will get his chance this year, doubtful he's going to show enough to be chasing metcalf out of the preferred halfback spot, even if he takes a while to come back.
But it is fortuitous he agreed to stay for another year, Boyd has Perth Bear written all over him for 2027.
If we are being ruthless you knock a bit off the metcalf extension and give it to TMM to keep him around a bit longer. if they were offering metcalf something like 4 years 900K maybe now its 3 years 800K -but you dont let him go, lots of players come back strong from these injuries. Sam Walker will be back soon he would be an interesting case to watch.
I also wish byod the best, and hope he really clicks and is given time to do so (Do not throw in TMM if byod has a couple of bad games). But it seems more than a little gung ho to assume boyd can reach anywhere near the same highs we saw from metcalf. I'd aruge at the moment just as much for boyd to just be a stop gap for cleary coming into full grade. As at the very least, he has age and hunger on his side.I cant see a world where the club can offer metclaf another deal, I think the club needs to invest that money into boyd.
