That’s exactly the time when the pressure comes on. The woman wants family around to help with baby.
Sign Kiwis
Should be a good test coming into next year. If his partner leaves to aus mid season then it's a good sign he'd be going. Otherwise them sticking around this season is a good sign that they are willing to stay long term. If there is any aussie that looks like he has intergrated with NZ (i have no evidence to back this up) it's metcalfe. So it'd be a good litmus test to see if any aussie who has new borns will stick around in auckland. Especially if he lands the position he has been asking for.

We have had quite a few Australians requesting to go home for family reasons. Each situation is different. A sick family member the best the club can do is try and give them time back in Australia.

Metcalf and his partner having a baby it will be difficult not having immediate family here. The hardest part is the first few years. Their parents will likely come across a fair bit. The best the club can do is try and get a support network around them. Maybe some of the other players partners.

It will always be easier to be near family. My partner and I have just got through it ourselves and sure family were closer than Australia but they still weren't in the immediate area.

These guys are lucky in that they are well paid and can decide to move and another club will likely pick them up.

Let's just hope they both enjoy it in Auckland and Metcalf feels his career is going well here. Fatherhood will soon make you more responsible. So having an extra mouth to feed could mean a more mature player.

I know it is a worry due to past players. Better to worry about it if a request comes. In the meantime congratulations to Metcalf and his partner.

Yeah it’s tough having a young one away from family- we were the only family in Aus with ours and you certainly notice it. However Metcalf is in a position that sees him in Aus every second week which is more than many see family so hopefully it’s manageable
