Welcome to your NZWF game day thread for todays clash.

UP THE WAHS!!!

We are fielding arguably our strongest team this season. The Phins on the other hand are missing 3 key players in JMK, Plath and Saifiti. The Phins have looked vulnerable through the middle without those blokes in their team, so I’d expect TMM to drop out and TSS to come in, giving us even more size to barrage through their middles. If Katoa is clicking tonight, that is a scary proposition, especially when he links up with their class in the backline. Contain him and we win.

Must win game to stay in touch with the bulldogs & keep 2nd place.

How refreshing is it that we 'must win' in order to keep up with the competition favourites, as opposed to our usual 'must win' games where we're sitting 12th and another loss puts us 2 or 3 wins outside of the 8....

I deffo prefer these 'must wins'!

First game I'm missing live this year, so I'm expecting us to win by plenty. Wahs 13+

“Woke up this morning…. Got myself a gun… “

I’ve got the Sopranos theme song playing in my head this morning. And I think the link between the Wahs and Tony Soprano is quite apt today as we approach playing the Dolphins. So I jumped onto ChatGPT and found a few tips for the boys to win today…

1. Emotional control is the difference between power and chaos. In tight games under intense pressure, composure is everything. Discipline wins games. Against the dolphins with their pace, loss of discipline is deadly.

2. Respect the Rival but show no fear. We respect the Dolphins talent, but we will not allow ourselves to be overawed. The Wahs must start fast, hit hard and own the collisions. Show from the first tackle that we’re not here to be impressed—we’re here to dominate.

3. Handle the heat. Be cool under pressure. Refs make bad calls. Opponents get dirty. The crowd gets loud. The team that stays composed wins the grind. When things get chaotic, the Wahs need to stay focused. Don’t get baited. Don’t force plays. Trust your system and stay clinical.

4. No weak links. A single missed tackle. A lazy chase. One lapse in communication. That’s all it takes. Every Wahs player on the field has to bring 80 minutes of intensity. There’s no room for passengers. All our boys need to play like someone’s gunning for their spot—because they are.

5. Close the deal. Get ahead? Don’t coast—crush. No soft second halves. No last-minute scrambles. Winners close games with intent—just like the mob ties up loose ends. You’re not there to “win enough”—you’re there to dominate.

Do all that? Wahs 13+ retaining outright second.

Great to see. He’s really kicked on after looking like he was in competition with Zyon Maiu’u for that smaller middle forward position. He’s progressed while Zyon Maiu’u has gone backwards to a degree and gives me the impression of different attitudes between the two. Does anyone if TSS was let go by the bulldogs, or if it was TSS wanted to return to NZ? He’s playing for a contract extension too, so I’m expecting him to put his best foot forward
