Social Brisbanes Cyclone Alfred

Yep, but the last one of this intensity was 70 years ago.
I remember years ago going with a friend to his mums house in Oxley ( South Brisbane ) and we were standing on the front porch waiting for her to answer the door.
He told me that years ago when the flooding came the water was up to a fork way up in a huge tree. I couldn't really believe him until we were inside and he showed me a picture taken looking at the same tree during the flooding. Must have been a terrible time

I'm further south near Coffs and it's been pissing down but with minimal wind. Having lived through Cyclone Bola as a kid you have to be prepared or you get into trouble.

Flooding will occur in our local rivers which is a common occurrence here albeit not from cyclones. Stay safe everyone. Look after yourself and check on your neighbours.

See you on the other side

Stay safe buddy

Flooding as far south as Macksville and Bowraville and it's pissing down heavily enough to raise the rivers in my area (Kalang, Bellingen, Nambucca) which are all flood prone. But flooding is par for the course here. It's the evacuation stage for Bowraville and Macksville and we are yonks away from Straddy and Byron etc.

Also another issue to be aware of is erosion

Bowraville - is that where Greg Inglis is from ?
I went there once place had a bad feel about it.
Macksville and Bellingen are just so low lying and right on the river.
Ballina is having issues too.

Yep G.I was born there I think. The place has an unsolved historic multiple murder I think. Or missing children.

It's an old town too. Flooding is expected in these areas but it's north of us from about Grafton to QLD that should take the most damage

Completely agree, Certain parts of Oxley, Corinda, Sherwood and most importantly Rocklea almost flood when you take a piss! They are just a couple of Incredibly low lying flood prone pockets of Brisbane.
You are fucking bonkers if you buy a home in Brissie and don’t look at the 74 flood mapping.
Again, with the current system brewing stay safe.

Rain - like the Auckland anniversary floods - is not a cyclone.

Gabriel in the Hawkes Bay was a cyclone - very different.
Auckland was hit by the floods on Auckland Anniversary and then Cyclone Gabrielle.

A state of emergency was declared and there was damage. Was it as bad as Hawkes Bay? no. But the original prediction was for Nothland and Auckland. Alfred will be similar in that there will be areas that will be warned due to the predicted path that may not be affected as much due to the cyclone changing course.

Can't believe the stupid mugs surfing & sightseeing. Got our fingers and everything else crossed for our rellies & all the folk affected by this. Be safe - don't be a mug or a hero unless you know what you are doing
Just wondering with all the airports shut how the Broncs managed to get back
