Not a Broncos fan, but if I was I would want a coach that is a very strong personality and won’t let the inmates run the asylum.

I agree he is a good coach. Not sure he will gel well with the types of Broncos players/personalities at the moment however. Will be interesting
It's either going to make them or completely break them. The thing he has going for him is that everyone thinks the club is full of divas and egos so if some player packs a sad with him it proves it's true. So they either toe the line or get called out.

Completely agree, expect to see them on NRL360 next year.

Tallis was coping hard last night on NRL360.

They were in a mess after a few years ago. Walters was probably the coach they needed for a few years as they sorted themselves out from that period. Like how us or the Knights fans would justify Nathan Brown as the rebuild/restructure coach.

Only 17 jobs available in his career choice, don't forget he was in the mix for the Donkeys 4 years ago when they appointed Kevvie.
Interesting to see the likes of Langer not sure if he can carry on at broncos after Walters sacked. Pissed a few of their old boys off, had to happen though. I’ve never thought Walters was a good coach, especially when current players playing for him were saying so

Not a fan of Walters but a hell of a way to lose your job. I don't think he had any idea this was coming.

The sight of vomit buckets at Broncos training as their gruelling pre-season kicked off raised eyebrows at NRL headquarters as CEO Andrew Abdo looks to enforce strict new protocols. It also raised some eyebrows at the NRL. A fortnight ago, NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo sent a missive to all clubs outlining the new training regulations for the pre-season.

Heat tests are to be conducted before every training session. Cooling breaks in the shade must be factored in. Ice towels, misting fans and additional drinks must be made available to players where possible.

Plenty of ice and water needs to be on hand. Fat club, where unfit and overweight players are flogged until they are back in shape, is out. So is training in the stifling heat without giving the players a break.

Picture: Nigel Hallett The new measures were introduced in response to the death of Manly youngster Keith Titmuss four years ago, which led to a coronial inquest and a recommendation to review pre-season training guidelines.

The NRL did just that and as a result, they will be on high alert over the coming months. They will be watching closely and the Broncos have already caught their eye.

It is understood some discreet inquiries were made to Brisbane officialdom after reports and vision emerged of the demanding sessions this week.

The good news is that all the new measures were followed. But while there is no suggestion the Broncos or Maguire did anything wrong, the concern at Rugby League Central highlights how seriously the NRL is taking the pre-season in the wake of the death of Titmuss.

Michael Maguire put his players through their paces on day one of the Broncos pre-season, but it was all done by the book. Picture: Nigel Hallett Broncos chief executive Dave Donaghy confirmed the NRL had been in contact and welcomed the chance for the club to be the first test case for the new heat rules.

“All our staff are well aware of the new pre-season guidelines,” Donaghy said.

”In fact, our staff did extra training beyond the NRL requirements to ensure our players would be looked after in the pre-season given the climate in Brisbane. We’re also fortunate to have (former NRL elite performance manager) Troy Thomson on our staff.

“We test our players in the pre-season, but we also respect the rules and make their safety the utmost priority.“

Picture: Nigel Hallett Prior to the start of pre-season, the NRL conducted education sessions with every club’s chief medical officer and high performance departments.

Each and every club is expected to assess players for their risk factors to heat using their total body mass. The missive that was sent the clubs includes an outline of how to react if a player suffers from overheating.

If a player looks in trouble, they are to be moved to the shade and have their rectal temperature measured. If they need to be cooled, the preferred method is an ice bath but if that is unavailable, the NRL recommends the use of the tarp method where a tarp is laid down and the player lies in the centre of it.

Four of his teammates grab a corner each, lift the corners to create a makeshift container and then cold water and crushed ice are pure on the player within the sheet.

BOX-OFFICE BRONCOS

The Brisbane Broncos are coming off a tumultuous season but they remain box office darlings on Fox League and Kayo Sports.

Sunday Sesh can reveal the Broncos were still the most watched team in rugby league in 2024 even though they endured one of the most traumatic seasons in their history – a year that culminated in the club missing the finals and coach Kevin Walters being replaced by Michael Maguire.

Picture: Getty Images The Melbourne Storm were the second-most watched after another grand final run that attracted plenty of eyeballs but the big movers were the Bulldogs, whose return to prominence captured the imagination of NRL fans.

Their viewing numbers increased by 21 per cent as the blue and white army lapped up the club’s finals run. The NRL enjoyed a season of record viewing numbers but the only side to go backwards in 2024 was South Sydney, whose difficult season left the club languishing near the bottom of the ladder for most of the year.

Every other team in the NRL picked up viewers in 2024.
