Pick Your Team Brisbane Broncos v NZ Warriors - [Round 11, 2026]

How is Metcalf sitting on the bench, unlikely to play unless there's an injury in the first 55 minutes, a better, or equal, option than him getting guaranteed game time in NSW Cup? Getting a front row seat to watch Boyd start on the biggest regular season round of the year does absolutely nothing for his confidence & could cause any resentment, if that's actually the case, to grow
Because the warriors have to optimise for first grade. We have the ability to name 19, you’d be stupid to leave someone out so that they can get game time in a comp they’re way too good for. If he gets game time in cup and he’s good, what then? We put him on the bench of the first grade side?

Nobody tells premier league teams to leave their backup centre backs off the bench because they likely won’t play and that they should play reserves instead to get game time

From his performances in the 2 games he came on he was woefully short of match fitness and confidence. Sitting on the bench does not help either of these.
There is another scenario though, if he plays NSW and is ordinary instead of anticipated stand out (for whatever reason) that may well reduce his bargaining position should the situation get to that free to negotiate stage. Right now Luke's reputation remains based on first half of last season and the two games this season are so far not part of the consideration it seems. But it might be factored in if he disappointed in NSW Cup over 2-4 games? Bit of a dilemma.
If he's confident, he should be jumping at the chance to 'show 'em' in NSW Cup.
But then maybe Jett goes to Webby to discuss his options! 😂

@Cces Do you think Tannah Boyd would be the player he is today if he spent the majority of last season as our 18th man?

Tanah Boyds partly the player he is this season because of a stacked Nsw cup team with two grand finals wins, and a solid pre-season.
No point sitting on the bench for too many weeks, steering the cup team around didn't hurt Tanah's pride and worked for him in the long term.

Think Barney also didn’t play until the Broncos negotiation started or went conditional on us getting a player back. His performance should be fine building back via cup but probably more fearful of injuring himself at the lower grade

He grows in confidence & is match fit for a call up if required
I personally do not think that Tanah Boyd would be the player that he is today without an amazing pack to sit behind, and the fact that he played NSW Cup last season has very little to do with it, and if anything, the fact that he played NRL first grade two seasons ago is more relevant to his ability to play NRL. I also personally think that Metcalf’s confidence would decrease if he was languishing in cup, why are we worried about his confidence? This was the premier half in the comp in the first half of last season

But in any case this is childish talk, Webby has clearly said that we would be stupid to leave a gun half back, who we have available, off the bench so that he can get minutes in a reserve comp, so it’s relatively pointless in a pick your team thread to forget that we have that luxury in the year of our lord 2026

For those talking about Broncos home crowd advantage, my 2c is this.

Having been to Magic Round about 4 or 5 times, the majority of the crowd will be supporting the Warriors. There's a MASSIVE contingent of Kiwis, and the majority of neutrals will be cheering us on.

There will definitely be a big number of Broncos fans, but I'm expecting them to be comfortably outgunned in terms of crowd support.
