Pick Your Team Brisbane Broncos v NZ Warriors - [Round 11, 2026]

Mixed bag last five years (note - in 21/22 there was a week off in June though not listed as bye on rleagueproject, was that a full comp week off?)

2025 : L v Storm, L v Panthers, W v Tigers
2024 : W v Cowboys, L v Raiders, final round bye does the L v Raiders in Vegas R1 '25 count 😅
2023 : L v Broncos, W v Dragons, W v Titans
2022 : L v Eels (W v Tigers after week off in June)
2021 : L v Storm (L v Dragons after week off in June)

Baby Broncos in Napier was post bye as well so the comment above remembering that result also pertinent!
I think in the post match talk, webby specifically brought up how the warriors need to come back with the same level of intensity and fittness from a bye. If not even better. So i'm glad he's calling it out as somthing to improve upon as well.

Game 2 of SOO was played on the last Sunday in June on both those seasons. In 2022 there was some internationals including Kiwis vs Tonga

Figured it was Origin related with the timing, I guess was just a week off for the teams rather than a competition point-gaining bye round (hence no bye listing).

tomorrow will be the most fascinating TLT of the year. In particular, what does he do with Mets. I'd prefer he get some time in cup but I can only imagine the media furore that would cause even if it is the right decision. The Sydney media will be watching very carefully.
Webby and co need to name the team that most benefits the overall goals of success. I've not been a supporter if putting Metty in cup but if it's best then so be it. I'm alright with him being on the bench but.

Top equal options would be Bench first grade or NSW cup at 7 only.

Him playing anywhere but 7 in NSW is the worst case.

Jack Goskiewski out with concussion for this one as well. The gameplan has to be to go through their middle. Their pack is starting to look tiny.
Think there will have to be get it wide early footy with their strength in the three quarter line and Walsh’s ability to skip outside of ppl

I feel like that’s increasingly the best approach against us anyway, we’re so dominant in the middle and our edge back rowers jam in on defensive yardage sets. We’re most vulnerable out wide. would be interesting to see how we get on against a side like Manly who play this way

I’m increasingly coming around to the view that I’m not really sure that we’ll learn much by putting him in cup. It’s way too good for cup, he’s probably gonna carve up, he gets reps on the hammy in training anyway, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s ready for FG.

Think he just sits in #20 and bides his time a bit

normally I'd be super worried about that. But a lot of the x-factor in the Brisbane backline is sitting on the sidelines for this one. No Staggs and Mariner in particular. Most of their tries in the roosters game was due to lazy marker defense through the middle as opposed to attacking shape.

Can't wait for Manly as well: Demi vs Brown kickoffs in particular.

I think the bench is non productive for LM. In cup at 7 he gets match fitness and gets to put his body in to contact, which in my opinion was lacking in his games at 6 when he came back this season.

Take the ball to the line.
Make your tackles in defence and own the structure and your area.
The rest is just fine tuning

No I agree, I back ourselves (always a scary thing to say), just that I think that’s maybe a better approach against us in general

How is Metcalf sitting on the bench, unlikely to play unless there's an injury in the first 55 minutes, a better, or equal, option than him getting guaranteed game time in NSW Cup? Getting a front row seat to watch Boyd start on the biggest regular season round of the year does absolutely nothing for his confidence & could cause any resentment, if that's actually the case, to grow

I'm not super stoked we're playing on the last evening of Magic Round on a sandy Suncorp. Hopefully the track is not too cut up and we avoid any (particularly knee) injuries.

Reynolds and Walsh are two of the greatest "big occasion" threats there are in the game. Hopefully a staunch ex-pat crowd gives us the leg up.
