TBH, I'd love for us to have that "problem" like the Sea Eagles, Sharks, or Manly—always making the top 8 but never getting past the semi-finals. But unlike those teams, our squad on paper just isn’t on the same level as the Knights, Sharks, or Eagles, except for 2023 and 2024.
2023 was incredible, and 2024 was one of our worst years for injuries. So, who knows?

As for Roger, I honestly think he fits better as a winger at this stage of his career than as a fullback. The game has changed too much, and wingers are essentially semi-fullbacks nowadays.
I think there's still a case for Roger at fullback, he's best suited to wing with the current game plan, but I wouldn't say the game's past him by.

I think the current game plan is more defense oriented, Charnze would be more of a defensive fullback than Roger who would put on a step and hit a gap, same with TT I'd say.

As far as Webby's concerened we probably have the right players where they should be to suit the game plan.

Did you get the feeling that was due to having to pay overs, the fear of leaving, the different culture, or all of the above?
“We're invested in the community here. We want to do New Zealand proud and I think people will see that. I think people are intrigued by that, what's going on over here.

I'd like to think it does help us in terms of recruitment. Like I said, it's not like we're overly active over in Australia. I have a look over there to see if there's anything that will fit in.

But for instance, we got Jet Cleary out of Penrith. Of course, we saw a hole in our halfbacks over here. That's the only time I really go over there is if I see that we really need to fill a gap and there's a really good option for us.

But outside of that, every time I make a recruitment decision, it's like, am I buying over the top of one of our best young kids or whatever? So I've just got to factor that in and it's hard because everyone wants us to recruit the best players. You know, it's the decisions I've got to make.”

Hi tragics.
@roguei posted a Roger Tuivasa Sheck short which is the first time ever that a signed player speaks to specific game plan strategy (in this case defence) straight after a big game, which answers directly what was happening for them as a player, how that unfolded in a way we could all see it when it failed, and the player (RTS) speaks directly to what worked.

This got me thinking about the technical aspects of how the Warriors play and the many posters who have insights into the technical side of the game.

league experts, the fans who use language like A, B, and C defender are welcome to add to this post.

Getting back to the RTS video short. He pays us fans the respect of explaining that Jamming in was on his pregame list, he certainly did that, which saw Manly overlap him, which in turn generated a lot of vitriol from fans, many of whom cried foul about Roger jamming in.

Often times you will read fans claiming these types of incidences are evidence of Webster being out coached.

In my own voice let me say that is a nonsense. There are well known popular defensive systems in the NRL, Jamming in is one of them....others include sliding and umbrella defence.

All of these systems have risks, all of them are effective if performed well, consistently. Sliding defence for example is vulnerable to dropping a ball back on the inside to an angled runner who is cutting against the grain and changing the angle of attack.

As we saw against Manly, Jamming in is vulnerable to being flanked by numbering up to create an overlap.

The rule of thumb with defence is to choose one system, and stick to it, ours is clearly gonna be jamming in, so get used to it.

And here's a tip on preventing overlaps when jamming in, your fullback should favor the side of the field that is the oppositions strongest attack.

Reason for favoring one side by the fullback is that they cannot realistically line up on both. So in the Manly Game Charnze should have drifted to our left side where Roger was Jamming in, which means our right side has to take care of itself, but at least they know that, at least they know we have a strong side and they have to D up on their end.

I love that we are jamming in and may be overlapped, coz that at least makes sense of what is happening with our defence when it fails, analysis and making corrections therefore are suddenly very simple and straight forward, qualities that seasoned Warriors fans should be gagging for in the mystery that is our underperformance in the NRL.

Well done Webster for having players like RTS that have such pre game clarity, I know for a fact that has been missing at this club for decades, most of our poor fools look like they haven't got a clue out there.

So you’re saying he’s not?
Mate he’s an Aussie of course he’s gonna be bias to Aussies and thats a GOOD thing .

Too many times our locals take for granted what they have. Even Jazz admitted it. We need the Aussies here to push our local boys to a higher standard. If they want a spot in the top team. Earn it. Otherwise give it to the Aussies who know what hard work looks like and go play for Manly!
He's Not!

Steve Price used to do similar discussing the game, why they did the things they did, what worked and didn’t in a pretty honest wrap up every week on radio sport in the late 2000’s

Drew me into the sport and is open and refreshing. Drives engagement as a fan when you understand the WHY things have happened on the field.
