We do need to remember it is a business. AFB deserves to maximise his earning potential and the club deserves to get their moneys worth.
Lots of big pay days for props at the moment and AFB is in the top 3. Maybe his contract isnt that reflective of the cap increases, maybe he is just a mercenary. Either way this could work out great, hes effectively playing for a new contract.

For sure, being the negative Nancy I can sometimes be, here are some of the biggest ways this could blow up in our face:

1. Injured all year and we end up paying a mill for nothing

2. AFB has a poor start to the season, so all other teams baulk at his 1.1m price tag

3. AFB drags his feet and has a below standard season, meaning we barely scrape into the 8.

4. Looking at the player's available right now, there are no decent replacements for him in 2025.

5. We lose AFB, Tohu, SJ all at the end of 2024, right when we have about 6 key young players who need to learn and develop from the snr pros who have lost left.

He has job security that guarantees him $1.1 (or thereabouts) million each year till the end of 2026. He signed the extension only last year.

Are you suggesting he deserves more money and an even longer contract term?

He put pen to paper. He deserves nothing more than what he's getting right now.

No I don't. But professional sports is a cut throat business and AFB is leveraging the only asset he has; his body. Which has a very defined window of opportunity.

Do you think that's unreasonable?

I think that is extremely unreasonable.

He agreed on an amount he thinks he is worth and the warriors agreed to pay that. They put pen to paper. The club then offered him an extension to which he agreed.

Him having a stellar season isn't a reason to look for an upgrade when he has 3 years to run on this contract, we pay him over a million for him to have a stellar season. And he's doing just that.

He cannot look for a new contract when he already has 3 years to run on his contract.

Just like he's leveraging the only asset he has, his body, the warriors are gambling a million a season on the same asset. If he goes down with an ACL the first game of the season, he's still got a million coming his way while the club gets no return.

There should be a limit to the greed or this circus will be never ending.

Absolute ungrateful prick in my eyes.

I tihnk it's unreasonable when he signed a contract til 2026. He didn't have too. We gave him a million plus dollar contract. There's only a handful of forwards on the money he is on in the world of Rugby League.

Mind you, A contract is not worth the paper it is written on these days. Gone are the days of loyalty & honour.
Eventually one of the NRL clubs will get fed up and hold these club jumping pricks to honour their contracts. And every other club should follow suit

On the other hand, If the reason they leave is for genuine reasons as in a sick or dying relative. I can deal with that.
 
We're in a really tough situation now, you've got a player in the senior leadership group who has gone to the media before speaking to the club. Doesn't exactly scream leadership does it.

Even though he's decided to stay on for 2024, I can't see this working out well. Will be absolutely off the bloke if it derails our season with the SJ window closing.

Bro if I signed a contract with McDonald's for 5 years then KFC comes along and says well pay you more.
Get fucked McDonald's.
All the contract does is stipulate how long the clubs paying you for. Not how long you have to stay. Can't force a man to work imo.

It's a binding agreement he can't provide his service elsewhere though, so it's leverage in the clubs side in this instance.
