General 2025 NZ Warriors Jerseys and Merchandise

I have no idea why the NRL has never had this. You see it at State of Origin and International rugby league. What other sports don't have the names on the jerseys?

It comes off as being cheap, like they only have one set of jerseys or something. Amateur sport teams will order custom jerseys for just one tournament these days.
Order through warriors website and get name and number added for free on your jersey. Could have basketball singlets, letterman jackets, etc. with player name and number options. If you have players choosing or being allocated a number when they sign then they keep it for their time at the club.

I remember them doing it with super league and it was weird seeing say 25 on the field and also made it harder to know where a player was playing position wise- but you’re right that it’s an additional revenue stream
You could have numbers 1-19 being backs and 20-39 being forwards? Allocated at the start of each season or when you sign a contract. Otherwise you need to get new jerseys printed each game. Just a thought

Yes to the names but no to player numbers, reason being it's a simple game and we need to know who's playing where, I don't want to see Metcalf at 19 kicking to Kosi at 39 on the wing, it's too much change for me at my age.

How do you cope when there are late changes to the team or the bench numbers come on? You can always rewind the VHS you are recording the game on afterwards and rewatch it.

How many team sports have jersey numbers based on positions that they the wearer is playing? I dont understand why its so dificult. Its easy enough to tell who or what position a player is playing based on where they are on the field. Is it for the broadcasters?

edit - i like player names on jerseys. But tbh if we are going numbers on the jersey route, it would have to be fully custom i.e 0-99 ie NBA?

I can cope with an 18th man coming on, but if we go with players getting an assigned number when they sign we'll have #148 passing to #312, no thanks, what's Blocker going to do, he'll call all our players Tohu Harris

I think union and league are the main ones that stick to a jersey number for positions.

I like the players names too. For making it easier on the club to arrange game day uniform I thought a custom number would work best as well. Yes to 1-99 or even limit the numbers to squad numbers so 1-30?

Why not just limit it to the extended bench, like we do now

Im in favour of having names on the jersey. I just thought for making it easy for clubs, printing and issuing player jerseys, training kit, off field apparel etc you could allocate a number to each player. Don't have to worry about different sizing or printing a new one if players changed positions from game to game then ie RTS plays wing one game, fullback, the next etc. just a thought.

Reserve graders should have a desire to take an incumbent's jersey though, if Tanah Boyd suddenly finds his superpowers and starts walking on water he should have Te Maire's 7 on his back, he deserves it. I wouldn't like to see that aspect of rl culture go at the expense of some sort of marketing exercise. Let's get the names printed up though, it's the only way Blocker's going to keep his job.

Each to their own. Reserve graders have the desire to make the first team. Doing it with their name and number on their back might be just as meaningful or even more so in years to come Doesn't seem to be an issue in other sports. Tom Brady #12 at quarterback for example. Football has adapted from positional numbered jerseys. You still have iconic numbers like 10 and 7 used but players have other numbers that are meaningful to them. Anyway, was just a thought. I think it's worth having names on the jersey at least. I also think it would be ok having player numbers too.

Yeah this.
I hate looking at a Super League team list and it's a weird in between where some numbers/positions align but then others are out of whack

Peter Wynn score n Parramatta does names and numbers if you want. Got my latest jersey from there and they asked if I wanted a number on it- think most rebels in Aus have machines that will put names/numbers on

Think super league era players got to pick their numbers for the season? Remember Marc Ellis picked 15 as he felt odd using a the league position numbers as he was used to them being tight 5 numbering in union positions

I never understood the "how I'm supposed to tell where they're playing" thing either.

Guy standing on the wing all the time is probably your wing.

Guy who keeps passing from dummy half likely your hooker.

Unco guy who keeps dropping the ball, probably Jacko Ford.

I'm fairly certain they transfer the number onto the jersey, so it wouldn't be an issue to add a name at the same time.

The main reason that I can think of as to why they wouldn't is if you had a player play in a different position/number one week, then that jersey might be used only one time. They can turn that into profit though by selling game worn jerseys. American sports do that all the time.

The other way American sports can recycle jerseys is by having a name bar that is removable. I doubt rugby league jerseys cost much to manufacture in comparison to an ice hockey jersey though.

I'd be for keeping the traditional RL numbering and adding a name. If they ended up changing to numbering the top players 1-30 then I would get used to that too. Most other sports have individual numbers and it doesn't make it confusing as to what position they are in.
