Best day of the week. Especially if I am not there, I get my weekly eighty minute plus messenger call.
And the day of days? when Leka scored the game winner and I resisted yelling to listen to them....what a lovely raucous chorus of joy, I wanted to shout over the top, but I took in the moment.
Is there any better feeling in the world than your kids being happy?
Gee dissecting the replays and hearing them give the break down was cool too, I mean my boys had never seen a player like him....and well yeah I guess none of us have.
I have been scratching me head since, trying to find a comparable player.
There isn't one.
I recently watched highlights of Inglis, Williams, Lauitiiti, pretty much the most impactful running big men in the modern game.
Depending on what you call modern - clearly Bradley Clyde and Steve Menzies changed the way fowards were perceived in their time.
Lauitiiti was the first twinkle toed giant. Many don't realize SBW is quoted in saying he is the player that SBW modelled his own style on.
Inglis is not a forward, but lets face it, the problem with categorizing Leka is that he runs like a back.
So I know using G.I. is a bit of a reach, but he is the size of a forward, and has rare speed to mass genetics, with subtlety of footwork thrown in, and a power fend.
As for SBW comparisons, they don't match up in the running style department, Williams is just a super all rounder and his running game is very good in all facets without being on a par with Leka....
Because no one runs like Leka, the closest comparison is someone like RTS, or SJ .....you just have to imagine those two steppers having to carry the bulk that Leka carries....and as such there is no player, nor has there ever been one quite the same.
Enough waffle, enjoy it Whanau. I am a big fan, but critic too...the lad needs to try to follow what Dimitric does...do that and he will be the best.
