Politics 🤡 Donald Trump

🤖 Thread Summary

j_p #206276 sharing a news article about New Zealand woman Sarah Shaw and her six-year-old son being detained by US immigration authorities. sup42 #206285 attributed the detention to racial profiling, claiming Shaw's olive complexion led to discriminatory treatment in what they called a "white supremacist fascist state." MrFrankWhite #206287 countered with a more procedural explanation, suggesting the issue stemmed from visa complications rather than racial bias, noting that Shaw's lawyer cited an "administrative error" with her temporary immigration document. juju #206296 challenged this assessment, arguing that detaining a mother and child for weeks over a clerical issue was excessive and indicated systemic problems with ICE procedures.

The conversation later shifted to broader Trump-related topics, MaybeTop8 #209467 sharing news about Trump firing DIA director Jeffrey Kruse following an Iran nuclear strike report. miket12 #209592 characterized Trump as "a spoiled brat who doesn't like being contradicted." More recently, MrFrankWhite #210608 introduced an unrelated incident involving Rampage Jackson's son Raja Jackson allegedly assaulting a wrestler during a live stream, suggesting it could escalate tensions in the US. However, sup42 #210627 and other users questioned the relevance of this incident to the Trump discussion thread, Noitall #210636 admitting uncertainty about the connection.

Frightening times. Interesting seeing that regarding NZ and Japan militarily, feel like we’re in a unique position by acting in defiance of our largest trading partner and wonder how long that continues to be the case? America has now overtaken Australia as our second largest trading partner so feels like there’s potentially an obligation from them to do what they can to minimise NZ and China relations. I’m not sure that’s possible though with China reportedly contributing $38 billion to the NZ economy last year alone. India is one market where NZ will be hopeful of getting something sorted that would contribute to a descaling of NZ and China economically but who knows what’s in the fine print of any free trade deal?

Yes, I believe India is a very smart, strategic long term play.

AI says in 50 years the super power of the world will be China, with India second and America third, but it also sits on the fence to a degree where in some answers it gives , it still cites America with the largest gdp in and around those years. I believe that’s because it knows how important cornering ai will be and China is looking be very sophisticated in it’s development

India has the capacity to offset the reliance on China. For all the drawbacks of India, it’s still a former commonwealth country that politically has far less issues than China, but with a huge increasingly affluent population that we can build trade with.

Everyone knows. Unlimited chain immigration to you country. Recognize Indian certificates and licenses as being valid.
I doubt that’s fine print, that’s likely in big bold lettering. I asked questions many years ago, why NZ to be given their first trade deal too? America dangled it over our heads for years and always snatched it away saying now wasn’t the time. Seems that now is the time but I think it’s too late. Chinese culture has imbedded itself into the world, they’ve created the throwaway society we’ve become with things made cheap rather than made to last. That’s not across the board as they do make some good things, but that’s the society they’ve created

India calls itself a democracy, but that’s no reality, especially under Modi. There’s also that China and India have long standing differences that’s likely to always see them on opposing sides
