I think everything you've said it correct except the even if he is flawed. Everything he does that is "flawed" there is an excuse for, and if there is a policy that goes against that particular voter, they think it doesn't apply to them or that he (DT) won't actually do it.

I guess it’s a matter of personal values and evaluation. The reality is he is the most unpolished, unprofessional, rude, exaggerating and bombastic president there has ever been. I hope he does most of things he said, I like him because sometimes that’s the only type of person that can correct the rot of an institution like the US govt.

Winston Churchill was known as - a racist, imperialist, who was an alcoholic. He had a big ego, was stubborn and arrogant, used classism, very rude and much more. However for the time, he was exactly what GB needed, and the world for that matter. Very unsavory character but went down as one of the greats.

Perhaps Trump is a bigger and more important version. A corrective to the abuses of system that had almost gained too much control.

It is simple really, māori like me who did not lose their access to the highest levels of education like every well off Pakeha in this country thrived, My children thrived, their children will thrive.
I am living proof that nonperformance is not about race, it is about resources and lack of access to the big leg up, the same leg up NRL Refs give Aussie pet sides every weekend (tongue in cheek but true of why Pakeha with assets do well, māori with Assets are part of the booming billion dollar māori economy) the underclass you write off are merely people without choices, people without a shit show in life.

So, when I first entered the public school system in South Auckland at primary age, the teacher put me and all the other māori children in the corner and told us to quietly do jigsaw puzzles while the whites did school work.

My brothers got the same treatment, so after a year of school in Auckland where we hadn't been taught the alphabet and my siblings had gone backwards, my mother pulled us out of school and home schooled us, which meant she had to leave her job, which then meant we went hungry a fair bit.

That was the 70s, it is much worse for māori families now. Anyway as you probably tell my mother taught us to read, taught us Shakespear, Dickens, the Brontes etc, at home, we returned to the school system when we were able to fend for ourselves in that system despite different treatment. My story is not unique. My best friend who was smarter than me pulled out of school when his mother couldn't afford the uniform. These are soft racial negative outcomes there were kids in our street getting hidings for failing at school. None of that behavior happens in māori areas where the people have access to their land, farms, resources, the social resilience and community standing to be like everyone else.

The first part is racial and happens across all spectrums. Happened to me every time we moved around80s-2000, I just happened to be 2 grade ahead of my age so my puzzles were math quizzes.

The 2nd part is socioeconomic and still māori under perform within their same cohort. Im not dismissing your experiences, but the narrative doesn't fit the data. Why aren't Pacific Islander outcomes as bad?

Pacific Islanders were brought here because the Govt realised that māori birth rates were going to make them a force under the so called democratic system of this country. Pacific Islanders were brought here to remove māori from their growing embedding into society.

Ergo māori who left their rural settings and flooded to the Cities to work were replaced in those jobs by the Islanders the Govt brought in.

māori went from being a struggling factory workforce (known as very hard workers) to the dole.
That happened to my entire extended family, who were all freezing workers at South down, Hellabys and Westfield the biggest freezing works in NZ, they were all laid off and replaced by Pacific Island workers brought in to displace the māori economy.

This is a fact of my life time, I was one of the victims of that cynical move by the white NZ Govt to displace māori from the Auckland work force. This is how we ended up homeless in Auckland and parents going cap in hand factory to factory being rejected by Samoan foremen. True story.

I tell you what really sucks. My Island mates growing up couldn't invite me to their homes because I was from the lazy dirty māori race (My Island mate quote from his mother, anyway heard it a lot from Islanders they Oscar Kighltey talks about it/how they were raised to look down on māori till they too ended up poor and struggling, then they realised māori were victims of the same system that was now rejecting them).

You know what really sucks? having to air dirty laundry on here with home truths because people are so ignorant about the shit lot māori have in this country.

My mother who is 98 still rails about unfairness with those three freezing works.
My Dad worked as a mechanics at Vesteys/ Westfield for prob thirty years.
I thought my mother talked about the unfairness of the 80 s government policies of deregulation which forced change and those three freezing works to close and also the Otahuhu railway workshops- these four sites employed thousands of workers of all races

I went to the catholic primary school in Rewa and Dela Salle in Mangere from 60/71 can’t remember racism but can remember sadism.
