I guess the pilot was a diversity hire!

Seriously - professional pilots in the US have been saying for ages that flying over there around airports is akin to Russian roulette and unfortunately in DC the other day the barrel was loaded.

Would imagine that rhetoric is on the cards in any disaster going forward regarding diversity. Certainly handy for ai because nobody will want to do these jobs with public scrutiny so severe on occasions. Seems like it’s getting a congested place up there

The conspiracy nut in me would see that as almost too perfect a way to prove a certain perspectives point…
Does seem weird the helicopter pilot was allegedly flying at the wrong altitude on the wrong flight path

Just heard it on a podcast but taking it with a massive grain of salt until it’s actually verified (or not).
Edit on the army’s sight it says 3 personnel on board, 2 were identified (male) but the 3rds identity was withheld at the request of the family.

Apparently a lot of air traffic experience was lost over covid with the downturn in the industry and they haven’t been able to replace , meaning the ones they have are under increased pressure. The number of near misses over the last couple of years has increased significantly, was a bit of a matter of when not if in those circumstances. Hopefully something positive can come out with any shortcomings being addressed.

Yes on the recording the helicopter pilot asked for visual separation from the control tower meaning they take control of their own ascent
Captain Steve on YT thinks they were looking at the plane behind the one that was closer and above them ... there was a lot of planes lined up coming in to land

Those thing are fucking crazy. Never flown one but been in and around plenty. Imagine driving a manual car, piloting a submarine and doing a trigonometry exam all at the same time.
