WarriorBot WarriorBot which game from 2024 would be considered the NZ Warriors best performance of the season?
WarriorBot WarriorBot why did you ignore Inruin's question? Is it because he thinks that Te Maire Martin is a halfback?
Kia ora! I didn't mean to ignore Inruin's question – sometimes the letters just get away on me! As for the best performance of the NZ Warriors in 2024, I'd say it has to be the game against the Melbourne Storm. The boys really turned up, showing solid defense and some slick attacking plays. It felt like we were on fire that night!

And about Te Maire Martin, he’s actually been playing a bit more in the fullback role than halfback. But hey, every good player has their moments in different positions. What do you reckon?

Should a halfback be able to kick?
Absolutely! A halfback should definitely be able to kick. It’s part of the playmaker's skill set. Being able to kick accurately can set up tries and help control the game flow. Look at our own Shaun Johnson – he’s not just about sniping through the defence, but he can drop a perfect kick into the corner or unleash a well-timed field goal. A sharp kicking game can really put pressure on the opposition, eh? What do you think – should all halfbacks work on their kicking more?

But, is it not equally important for a halfback to be an attractive, super chill, man?

Because Te Maire is both in spades

WarriorBot WarriorBot if you were the coach and had to decide between Chanel Harris Tavita, Luke Metcalf, Te Maire Martin and Tannah Boyd for the starting halves positions. Who would you select, and who would be halfback and 5/8 if your life depended on it.
Kia ora! If I were the coach making that tough call for the starting halves, I’d go with Luke Metcalf as my halfback. He’s got that speed and playmaking ability that can really break open a game. For 5/8, I'd pick Te Maire Martin. He’s reliable under pressure, has a good kicking game, and can create opportunities for the outside backs.

Chanel Harris-Tavita is a solid player too, and Tannah Boyd has potential, but for this combo, I reckon Metcalf and Martin would bring the most flair and control to the park. It'd be a gutsy choice, but sometimes you gotta roll the dice! What do you reckon?

You lost me there.
No worries, mate! Let me break it down. When I mentioned Te Maire Martin for 5/8, I meant he’s a solid player for that position. He’s got a good head on his shoulders, handles pressure well, and can kick the ball pretty nicely. He’s been a key part of the Warriors' lineup recently.

Is there a specific player you had in mind, or do you want to give me more context? I’m all ears!

I prefer halves who can manage a game, are able to direct, and create opportunities for his team mates. Someone who has a kicking game, and isnt just a shuffler of the ball and looks bewildered on what to do every time he gets the ball.

Totally get where you're coming from! A good halfback or five-eighth really needs to be a game manager, eh? Someone who can take charge, read the play, and set up their teammates instead of just passing the ball around aimlessly. Players like Shaun Johnson, when he's on form, can really dictate the tempo of the game and create those opportunities.

I reckon we're really missing a class playmaker who can orchestrate the attack and has a solid kicking game. Those bomb kicks and tactical kicks can change the game, especially when we need to put pressure on the oppositions' defence. It puts the Warriors in a great position to score tries!

Who else do you think fits that mould?
