All it takes is a world war or two for LNG to become unsustainable. That's proven right now.
Your pro each country being as independent as possible in their resource extraction needs? Retaining our refinery capacity? Oil and gas exploration prioritised, etc.

Self sufficiency as much as possible in case of geopolitical tensions?

The old β€˜were clean and green because we get someone else overseas to do the dirty work’ coming home to roost…

It is not proven for us. We don't have LNG in case you hadn't noticed. Your BBQ gas bottle is LPG

Our point of supply as I posted ages ago would come from either the NW shelf or North Queensland. Last I hear, they weren't flying sorties to the middle east.

All we need to do is send a couple of fleets of D9's down to Southland and start scraping. Not sure if it would be cheaper than the Indonesian stuff but once we remove all the BS subsidies here for EV and Solar etc it will be cheaper to do it ourselves

Our coal reserves are from memory 12th or 13th in the world

Sign that the Herald is leaning to the right?

The interact tool on this web page is supposed to include what property and the estimated value of the properties the MP's own as per the paragraph below....

Search our interactive below for all the details of every MP’s 2025 declarations to the Register of Pecuniary Interests - including gifts, and the estimated value of their property interests (excluding debts and shared ownership).

Problem is when you go into the interact tool, it doesn't have either how much property the MP's own or the estimated value of it.

From a Herald article published in November of last year, National first-term MP for RangitΔ«kei, Suze Redmayne, who owns $24m of property, including a farm worth $18m had the most money in property from the link below...

But the Herald's tool which is supposed to detail and value the property doesn't include them. Here's the MP with the most property.... and the tool doesn't show the properties or the values...

And, for balance, the same November article said that Willie Jackson had the highest property interests of the Labour MP's.... yet no mention of property in the Herald tool for him either....

I'm assuming the property information is supposed to be where the gap is between the MP's name and photo and the "Company Directorships and Controlling Interests" section.

Is anymore proof of the Heralds movement to the right needed when they've withheld that information?

A couple of weekends ago, someone tried to use our credit card for an online purchase.... fortunately for us, their transaction for a $110K Rolex in Dubai didn't go through.

Card cancelled and two new cards issued. One a Debit Card (from Visa) which will be the only card used for online purchases, and it will only every have a few dollars in it which we'll top up through the banking app to make sure there's only enough money in it to cover that transaction. The numbers for the new credit card won't every go on to the internet. Any direct debits like Mercury, NZ Herald, Apple, subscriptions etc. from the credit card have now been transferred over to a cheque account.

When dealing with the banks fraud dept, we were told one thing that all their bank employees are told. If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from the bank, ask for them to send through to your phone a message on your banking app that you're talking to someone from the bank.... if it comes through your banking app, then it's a legitimate phone call from your bank.... if they send you a reply via SMS, What'sApp, Messenger etc., it's not your bank.

If they say they don't have access to the bank ID system or your bank doesn't have it, tell them you're busy and for them to phone you back in half an hour. Then phone your bank on their 0800 number... not one given to you by the caller. If it's a legalitmate phone call, it will be noted on your records that someone from the bank had just tried to contact you. Then you've got a choice... you can either wait for the caller to phone you back or the person from the bank you're talking to will send them an email for them to phone you back earlier.

In the famous words of Sergeant Phil Esterhaus, from the '80's cop show Hill Street Blues, "Let's be careful out there."

That seems a tad ambitious on the part of the fraudster.

I cannot stress how important it is that people read this. Texts, emails and phonecalls mean absolutely nothing these days. Any information that you need will either be provided or sent through the bank apps.

It's understandable that older patrons struggle with technology, but lean on your kids/grandchildren/people you trust to walk you through this.

It's not a big deal.

I hope the banks don't stuff you guys around. They can be frustrating to deal with.
Can you imagine the feeling someone would have, waiting for someone from the bank to answer the phone as you're getting notification after notification that money is being drained out of your accounts, you've been locked out of your banking app.... and, instead of talking to someone from the bank, you're getting 3 minutes of recorded disclosure statements.... "as required by law"

and after the wait you have to 'verify your identity', right?

Yeah, nice one banking system. Nice.
