In case you need any more proof that Kainga Ora went crazy with the amount of money they were spending to secure property, they've taken a $2 million loss from what they purchased this stie at to now sold it at.

And Miket12 what would have been the financial situation or returns if the original project had continued as planned πŸ€”

Can you define more clearly "someone else's hard work" - who is the someone else?

You propose "they" - can you define more clearly who you mean as they?

Your first statement also infers that there's one group that's more hard done by than others. Can you define that group and who the other groups might be please
Hard working, struggling Taxpayers

Tax and spend left wing parties

The bottom 5% in any progressive tax system do not contribute to the tax take.
Anyone who receives govt support and then pays tax is paying tax from other taxpayers so no real tax paid at all.

That’s about 25% of the population including super-annuitants and beneficiaries.

And then theirs non working under 18’s.

Yes, when the govt wastes our money they are insulting everyone’s hard work πŸ˜‰
I feel insulted about the plans to pay billions for impoerted liquid natural gas. It's also insulting to all New Zealanders who wish to progress.

I feel insulted about all the tax breaks for landlords.

I feel insulted about tax cuts that as it turns out we couldn't afford

etc etc.

You basically feel insulted because you feel you are more privileged than everyone else and therefore deserve more right?

Scary thing is, the area of the property that brought at #70 Upper Queen Street was 275mΒ² so at $3,000,000 purchase price, that cost them just over $10,900 per mΒ² back in 2017. The property at #66 has an area of 220mΒ² and an RV at the time of $1,280,000.... which equates to $5,800 per mΒ². KO paid nearly twice as much for the property (based on the cost per mΒ² for the land) than it was worth.

Oh, and that's not counting on the fact that #66 had a house built in 2010 on it... the house at #70 when KO brought it was only worth demolishing and built pre-WW2

No... you'd rather burn coal for 10 years to boast our power supply until the Lake Onslow battery was completed. That's 30 years of running the LNG plant before it's a worse environmental outcome when you compare power generated pollution from coal to power generated pollution from LNG.

Funny how when GrantR brought in the removal of landlords ability to deduct interest it wasn't a new tax... but allowing it again is now a tax break. But the Nats are just as bad with the energy levy.

You do realise that one of the cornerstones of the Greens tax policies would also give as a "tax break" except they would wait nine years like the right to adjust the thresholds... they want to give us the "tax break" every three years when they want the threshold adjusted.

That's the problem with idealism.... sometimes the current government, even when we haven't voted for them, may actually have a better idea than the government we'd like.... we just hate to admit it.

We needed to start yesterday or 40 years ago to transition away from reliance on fossil fuels.

For instance building more and more renewable capacity, moving the housing network to solar, increasing the ev uptake. Anything. Any moves to do so have been reversed by this government and destroyed.

All it takes is a world war or two for LNG to become unsustainable. That's proven right now.

And I'm pretty sure you know this government has absolutely zero interest in any kind of transition away from fossil fuels, ALL their decisions to date point to exactly the opposite, keeping their masters and donors happy.

I’ve recommended to a few clients who feel Elon is rich enough and want an alternative to the Tesla Powerwall, that they instead get a quote from here….

There’s a lot of advancements in solid state batteries being available soon for vehicles and those for solar storage within 5-8 years. Tesla may start to lose their top place in solar batteries to the likes of BYD and FranklinWH if they don’t start developing their own S/S batteries… they risk going from being seen as innovators to being left behind…. think VHS vs Beta.

It will be interesting to see which of the parties offer rebates (Labour $4000 during 2023 election) or grants (Greens $6000 during the 2023 election) for solar systems this election. Not including apartments, there’s around 1.5 million houses, units and townhouses in NZ. If 25% of those converted to solar, it would cost between $1.5B to $2.25B depending on what system was used.

By comparison, Contact Energy are spending $925 million on the Tauhara geothermal project which will supply power to 200,000 homes. That works out at $4,600 per house to provide power not dependent on sunshine compared to $4,000 or $6,000 per household for an intermittent power supply.

Personally, I’d rather government provide large scale generation than subsidise solar for private houses. Sure, put solar in yourself, but the public is better served thru large scale generation (including battery storage) than grants for private houses.
