You should challenge them on it Mike. Always good to get the facts.

I do note other places are quoting that figure in the upper end

Sorry, but that's a circular argument as RNZ quote Greater Auckland as their source for the $22 billion figure.

A regressive government? Which is about to pay out between $180 mil to $200 mil to Genesis for renewable and battery storage so the Government can maintain it's majority shareholding and not be seen as "selling assets*"?

A regressive government? That sees it better to burn gas as a back up to renewables than coal like the previous "green" leaning government. They could burn gas for thirty years and still not have damaged the environment as much as the coal used in 10 years while the Lake battery was built.

A regressive government? One, whose fast-tracking system has seen nearly twice as much renewable and battery storage projects get faster Resource approval than previously?

A regressive government? Because they recognise that the lower the speeds (because of congestion) the worse for the environment. Build more RoNS.... save the environment (okay, I admit, that last part was a bit sarcastic).

Don't fall for everything you read on bluesky.... it leans to the left.

*ACT and their Atlas puppet masters won't be happy!!!
yes, a regressive corrupt fossil fuel driven government Mike. I source from many places.

Nah, that's just lazy. X is all those things and more. That's fact.

If you guys endorse that, good on you, own it. If you don't, speak up. I know I will.

Shifting sands Rick. What wasn't tolerated, suddenly is acceptable, and the further right we go.

Meanwhile, the Right shove morality, censorship and bigotry down our throats at the same time as crying foul when they get called out for being an asshole.
Maybe so my friend, not sure how you think it is lazy but everyone is entitled to an opinion and while you may think you are the paragon of truth and the upholder of the morality of the world, your name calling and total rejection of anything other than your own views says a lot about yourself.

I think you really do you believe you are the ultimate arbiter, speaking of pushing stuff down throats, have a look in the mirror

Looking back through a couple of hundred posts, it seems the name calling thingie is a leftish fetish.

Nah not really Rick. Look through the thousands of posts on here from everyone and reconcile what's happening around the world and in New Zealand. That's the truth.

I'm looking in the mirror all the time Rick. Many mistakes made. Many more to be made.

But I do know right from wrong, and the political Right in all forms is destroying the world.

The thing is, what are you on the right here going to do about it? You all seem so comfortable with things. So accepting.

He's a blowhard for sure but at the moment he's all we've got. I can't think of anyone else in Parliament who you could say has a clue about the situation. Quite unbelievable really.
Hopefully you are not saying that when Luxon says " We are fixing the basics " he actually meant that when it comes to O & G we are basically fucked ?

re: name calling, I'm sure you can find plenty of labelling shall we say for the likes of Wiz and Frank. No doubt it will be in response to something they've said. And they've said A LOT that deserves the labelling.

I'm also sure you'll find a small grouping that fall in this category. With good reason too, as they and others have no doubt "labelled" me. Such as an arbiter of morality, pushing stuff down throats etc. That's you labelling me.

I'll speak for my self and I'm sure one or two others blue tinged on here. Most kiwis grow up socialists believe it not.

Some stay that way, some move right but in my years I still think we all have some sort of social conscience.

Believe me, not all the food banks and help centres like the Salvation Army and City Mission are funded by the Left. Nor is disapproval of international events a left only thing. Flag waving and dying on the barricades are not necessarily the only way to get things done.

No one in their right mind supports killing innocent civilians or supporting dictators and I would put money on all posters in this thread being of the same opinion.

The internal politics thing is absolutely typical of how these threads work. The rhetoric only changes depending on which side is in Govt.
My own opinion is generally about who adds value, not necessarily to me as I can look after my self but who is adding value and working towards upgrading this country and it's people.

This Govt is certainly not perfect and the Leader needs replacing, that's only my opinion but on the other side they have made some progress in important areas and tbf there was a lot of work to do after Covid.

Sometimes it is ok to give some plaudits

Yes, it is a label but it's not calling you a Dork, Retard, Arsehole, Cretin etc (you don't use all of these but one or two others do)

I agree whole heartedly apart from maybe them making progress, that is a natural response from me :)

If there are examples of good things by all means post them.

I wouldn't take the bet on all posters though, I can think of one who might fit the bill.

Thanks for the reply.

I think what Stanford is trying to do in Education is beginning to show results. Just my gut feel and will take a while but that is our future.

And, just putting it out there. If The Coalition could put a decent CGT together, it would be a winner.

Chippie is like Luxon, dead man walking

Oh look.

Rise of 50% in lng from the same region I believe we're supposed to be sourcing from

How about that solar and wind eh? How about this regressive fossil fuel government.

Nothing, fear article - β€˜Monday’s rise to $79 a barrel, up 9% since the end of last week, is sizeable, especially as the price was $62 at the start of this year, but remember that $125 was seen shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and $100-plus was then sustained for three months.’

Big question for you is where were all the hydro schemes, wind and solar under 6 years of left/ Greens in charge?

Just discovered something which I hadn't realised.... while the Aratere (our only currently ferry that could take rail wagons) could take a maximum of 28 wagons, both the cancelled iRex ferries and the new ones would both have a capacity of 40 wagons each. But, I thought the government was helping destroy the environment by reducing the rail capacity and forcing more trucks on to the road?

The new ferries (480 cars capacity) would take approximately 50 less cars or 25 less trucks than the iRex ferries.... the Aratere could hold 230 cars. iRex could hold 1,900 passengers, the new ferries 1500 while the Aratere could hold 650.

From what we're told, we would think that the ferries currently being built are significantly smaller than the iRex but they're only around 25m smaller.

But worst of all.... the previous government stopped work on ferries and terminals in 2021 which had a scope of works/specification for what we're now getting. I don't recall any outrage then for them cancelling that proposal.

Shit. That's it. I'm cancelling my green party membership and catching one of these new ferries.

Oh that's right, when do they arrive?
