Someone’s favourite journalist Anne Salmond referring to the regional council changes as under 🀣

Exposed herself well and truely as a pro left hypocrite.. The reformed are a copy of the lefts 3 waters amalgamation in principle that she championed but done in a much more democratic way.
What do you think about these changes have here in Tauranga Wiz. Given that we have Mahe as our Mayor and he has plenty of critics already.

I worked on this project and can tell that that the current costs, including the cancellation costs for 3 contractors and the ship builders, is way more than the $4b the previous scheme had blown out to and it will provide inferior ferries and inferior port side facilities.

Just on this - I wrote a report in about 2021 where I said that KiwiRail had been hugely optimistic in their quantitative R&O for the port-side infrastructure costs.

You can OIA it but it got very watered down by the MoT before it got to the 2 ministers.

N.B., it would still have been a better outcome with all the blow-outs than the current government's debacle - better facilities and ships, at a lower total costs - but it doesn't excuse the incompetence of KiwiRail and the negligence of the MoT.

The MoT should take a lot of the blame for the Irex and Auckland light rail cock ups.

You're a mere speck in comparison. Don't embarrass yourself

Yup, she's entitled to an opinion just like O'Brien. The dame's a story teller. Really enjoyed her Tale of the Cannibal Dog.
She has the credentials though. More than you and I.

Only given her Damehood by the National Government in 1995.

Her article makes a lot of sense... unlike that absolute embarrassing twit in Tauranga.

Labour set the platform we’re now living πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
Actuary if we are talking debt then it started with Key. He had some good plans, or English did at least but they haven't panned out and they pushed through some stuff without enough governance which has turned to crap.
Labour can at least blame covid but it's hard to know how much is really down to that., can't think of anything lasting that they did. The ferries would have been good I guess or at least an investment in the right direction.
