I was ctriticised earlier in the week for not supplying a link or like. Only I couldn't for other reasons. But hey I was still on the money100 MIke, if there's no links and articles of journalistic fact inside those opinion pieces.
When someone asks for the "facts" to be proven from their own sourced opinion piece that doesn't actually quote any or link to anything then that's a bit much isn't it?
I glance at them all, mainly to see if they can actually criticise their own side and with the Economists (you know who you are) can count past 10 without taking their boots off.I do read one of those![]()
Pretty sure Inruin could do that too. But that's on them. The data, released today by the Ministry of Education, showed 58% of students were at or above expectations at their 20-week phonics check in Term 3. This is up from 36% in Term 1.
In Term 3, 43% of students were classed as exceeding expectations â more than double the Term 1 rate.

If you go to the Ministry site the data is there.
The article from the daily blog isn't bomber btw. Not that it matters really.I glance at them all, mainly to see if they can actually criticise their own side and with the Economists (you know who you are) can count past 10 without taking their boots off.
TBF to Bomber even if he is on the spectrum and a lower form of life, he's not afraid to give it to his own side if he thinks they're giving the enemy an advantage
Numpty, I have posted the link to a news report with that data in.Pretty sure Inruin could do that too. But that's on them.

Despite all the toing and froing, from what you've heard and read do you think there has been an improvement in literacy and numeracy?Pretty sure Inruin could do that too. But that's on them.

To add to the facts, my wife teaches in primary and anecdotally the changes have seen significant improvements. The data, released today by the Ministry of Education, showed 58% of students were at or above expectations at their 20-week phonics check in Term 3. This is up from 36% in Term 1.

Personally, I think we need these changes but there are genuine and legitimate concerns around the speed of the changes and the number of changes to the curriculum. If you don't rip the bandaid off though, the process could drag on for years and still get some teachers or principals not happy? To add to the facts, my wife teaches in primary and anecdotally the changes have seen significant improvements.
All teachers were put on a MoE funded literacy course last year (BSL) and the results implementing the system have been phenomenal.
I think itâs critical to NZâs future that we educate our kids well and itâs more important than politics. The people hoping the changes fail, really need to reflect that their desire for failure for personal and political reasons is going to actually affect kids negatively in the real world.
We need to rise above politics and champion what works.

I think everyone would agree that continuing on and getting the same declining results wasn't really a great option.
Is the use of charter schools intending to fix the problem you mention in your last sentence?![]()
Primary principals urge Minister to slow down curriculum changes
Principals told RNZ they could not possibly adopt the most recent changes to the maths curriculum in time for the new year.www.rnz.co.nz
Yeah I think thatâs the frustration that people on the ground such as teachers and principals arenât being listened to with their concerns and itâs full steam ahead. Same with my point I tried to make earlier that most saw change necessary but also saw some things that were beneficial to some students. Potentially some sort of alteration could have been looked at to preserve whatâs there in some way or better it offering another avenue for some and what was asked for, but it gave an impression of something labour put in place so it had to go like the prompt name changes to government agencies that seemed like we had for greater issues pressing. I donât see anyone wanting it to fail as was mentioned but I also think a one size fits all approach in education and right throughout society doesnât work either
For sure there will be some it works for, options are key. I think it was the cost that drew most criticism there? Is the use of charter schools intending to fix the problem you mention in your last sentence?
