Politics 🗳️ NZ Politics

My sense of smell is non-existent… so… 😉

People have a short memory of how bad it was when Labour got turfed out.

Crime, health, education, economy, inflation, etc, etc all in crisis.

Anything’s better than the shambles National inherited and I’m enjoying the steady progress measurable in many areas.
Don't forget to thank Sunny Kaushal for doing Mitchell's job at a exorbitant cost 😀

The New Zealand police appear to be an insular inward looking corrupt organisation.

This is truly appalling, but only one of many recent and not so recent scandals that go right to the heart of our police force. Institutionalised to the core.

And Mitchell? Covering his arse more likely. Speculation on my part of course, but who wouldn't. How much do all of our governments know?

And then there's this:

How many people have been falsely strung up due to this endemic corruption?

Oh and utterly patriarchal

Wow, the people at the top of the police are really letting down the force.

Mind you when the people that appointed this mob were soft on crime, cuddling up to gangs, policed by consent and even our justice minister drunk drove then ran away from the police, what do we expect!

Glad National is sorting it all out. I have a lot of faith in Mark Mitchell.
Just to pour some cold water on your erection I remind you that Coster was known to be so incompetent that your favourite political party saw fit to appoint him as head of another government department when he left the Police!

Explain that to us

Can't confirm but was he on a reasonable contract with NZP and instead of paying him out, the Public Service shifted him to another role until his expiry date. Or did the PS know what was coming up with McSkimming and needed to have a handy scapegoat if necessary.
Tinfoil hat time but interesting to say the least

His term with the Police was due to expire in April 2025 but he went on 10 November 2024 to start the new role the next day.

If I recall correctly it was a 5 year appointment so I can’t see it being shifted to avoid a pay out

Ironically he was placed on leave exactly 1 year after starting the role

No, Nicola Willis headhunted him to be chief executive of the social investment agency. That’s not a sideways move - thats a promotion.

How’s this for an opinion (not mine):

The government and RBNZ effectively acted like loan sharks, encouraging New Zealanders to take on as much debt as possible through ultra-low interest rates and excessive liquidity during COVID. Then, once households were maxed out, they hiked rates, turning a large portion of the population into debt slaves to Australian banks. The result: no disposable income and collapsing industries like hospitality. Meanwhile, those same Australian banks are reaping record profits.

It’s time for the RBNZ to do the right thing: slash interest rates and allow the NZD to devalue, reducing the real burden of debt that’s denominated in NZD but owned by Australian banks, while strictly enforcing debt-to-income and debt-to-equity rules to prevent another bubble.

The last 5 years economic shambles has really been masterminded by the incompetence of the ‘independent’ Reserve Bank rather than either political party and we’re all paying for it.

I’m similar to Ricks thoughts.

The champion of progressive policing had to be moved sideways for a politically poor fit by a harder line govt, rather than anything to do with the current allegations.

Maybe the current issues in police are the end result of a soft approach to leadership mirroring the soft approach to crime, enabling more crime?

Disappointed with the new fire arms rules.... I was looking forward to being able to post about the coalition being under the influence of the gun lobby by changing the auto gun rules.... and they didn't!!!

Makes no sense!

Far cheaper to pay out 5 months of the Police contract instead of paying a 5 year contract.

Also I invite you to go back and review both what the PM and the MOP said about Coster once he & the MOP had agreed on their new policing policy

Thank goodness there’s an agree to disagree policy between them with McKee keen to see semi automatic weapons and coalition partners not

Did the right people know about these allegations (and the seriousness of them) 5 months ago?

Never mind who was in charge for whatever appointment. These guys and girls have been around long enough to be through successive governments.
This is about individuals not ministers or appointments.
Really disturbing that these amoral people are at the head of what should be a totally neutral and law focused organisation, there to protect and serve.
A lot of heads to roll and then trust to be regathered from the public
