It’s a very polarising topic currently but ironic for him to be criticising after some of his performative stunts over the years. Person should be prosecuted because that’s beyond protest, we’re heading into murky waters

I’m just amazed a green protestor smashing up an MP’s house can be turned into ‘this is the fascist right’.

I’m not trying to play down the actions of this guy and as I’ve said, think he should be prosecuted but I don’t think it’s an attack on Peters in the sense of violence on him but more an act of wilful damage. There’s no account of him trying to enter the premises as yet and gives the impression of someone trying to big note in a protest and has gone too far, which is why I think a prosecution could be necessary to send a message. It wasn’t a good thing for his address to be leaked but I also think it shows the sense of frustration from those that support the Palestinian cause in doing so people are labelled with supporting hamas, which isn’t the case, it’s the innocents being slaughtered

A group called Tāmaki for Palestine claimed responsibility for a series of paint attacks and vandalism on the offices of National and ACT party MPs in late 2023 and early 2024.

Protest the policies, parties, etc through the right channels but we should never protest the individual MP. They should never have been outside Peters house protesting in the first place.

Think it’s always interesting to highlight the extremism on both sides, I’ve posted on the trump thread the place where right extremism tends to go and we witnessed it with the Mosque shooter over here, but left extremism tends to be vandalism in a lot of cases. In 2014 protestors gathered outside John key’s home and we’ve gone to more and more extreme places since with Ardern’s vehicle chased etc. I think with protest, it’s often about getting your cause heard and we’d often see gimmicks like being handcuffed to something or the like, and still do like those recent priests outside Willis’ office
The analogy exists for being pushed into a corner, fighting back and then being labelled the aggressor, with the original acts of aggression totally being ignored. That's happening all over now, and the original aggressor? Obviously parties on the right and far right

In this Peters case, we are talking about a protester in NZ that has gone on to an MP's private property, his residence and caused damage to his home, while his partner was there. There is no way that anybody can paint the guy that has done this as the victim.

well, a few decades before the the meme rent-a-crowd that has gone from 1% to Climate Change to Black Lives Matter to Amazon Wildfires to Just Stop Oil to Amazon Fires to Free Palestine.
The serial protestors that send hope and prayers via selfies in flags and updated instagram backgrounds and adopt whatever movement is popular, driven by celebs and likes. A few decades before this crowd became a thing. In the mid 2000's I became awakened to what has been happening in Palestine, and started caring about it
So yeah, I do care. But a different sort of caring than the superficial "what's everyone protesting now" group. Where were they all before 2023? Where was the protest then, when Israel kept breaking international laws and displacing Palestinians in occupied territories? Those protesters were out latching onto some other bandwagon

Yeah, I'm pretty happy mind mocking groups that do things for likes. I don't put Greta in this category but I don't mind having a laugh at public figures from time to time. You should try it. It makes life enjoyable sometimes
