Ohhh…. Political parties are funded but lots of people. 1+1=3. News flash, all parties are influenced by the world around them, including looking overseas to best practice 🙄

I posted the bills principles and I have stated I can’t see anything wrong with them. I challenged you to outline which principles you have an issue with. They all seem very reasonable and progressive.

You say people more intelligent than you are telling you what to think… fair enough.
As juju said you're regurgitating ACT propaganda sprinkled with your own bullshit

I had a moment of clarity yesterday, thinking about the various players on this section of the forum. There's no point in getting wound up by peoples' opinions on here (which I sometimes do @juju ;)). Everyone on here is different and they'll draw on their own perspectives and it is futile to even hope to change their opinions. It makes reading the messages a lot more relaxing to approach it that way

Like, who cares if someone that you don't know has an opposite opinion to you. It doesn't matter. The reality is that it often seems like an opposite opinion, but if you actually sat down with someone face to face, there would be more crossover in their views than you think on screen

Don’t play chess with pigeons. I’ve stopped responding to the intellectually dishonest posters.

Yeah definitely.

It's important to understand how many of us have similar core fundamental values. There are of course those of us that are polar opposites but we make that known fairly clearly on here I think.

Equally though, as just one example I firmly believe that ACT's regulatory standards bill will be one of the most destructive pieces of legislation this country has ever seen, and that the wider context and history provides a bleak picture of wealth extraction and corporate greed.

I know ACT are funded and backed by powerful overseas interests.

I understand that others don't share that viewpoint, nor will believe it based on their experience, and may not experience negative outcomes as a result of this bill or any of this government's policies. Yet that negative impact will happen, and it will be felt by many, many New Zealanders for decades. No doubt spin will be pushed to gloss over and move quickly on, but the impact will surface in ways that will affect those more privileged new zealanders and those who don't believe they will be affected, through poverty, social inequity, increased crime, homelessness, run down services, privatisation that no one can afford etc etc.

Which will then be taken and spun into the same old tough on crime, socialism doesn't work, we need to double down, small government neoliberal mantras we've had for the last 50 years.

And on and on we go, and societal cohesion and community is going to suffer. It's class warfare.

For me it's not opinion so much as a historical context that points to this happening as fact. And I feel strongly enough to keep posting as a warning, but also fulfilling the said definition of insanity :)

Plus I hate bullies, lies, disinformation and neoliberalism, so y'know.

So by this your saying you will oppose anything right wing regardless of its value because you fundamentally disagree with the way society currently is?

I prefer to base every issue on its merit and can flip flop left or right on issues. To me it’s obvious that our regulations have stuffed up our productivity and standard of living. This is a lived experience through working very closely with regulations and trying to make them work where in many cases they are illogical, impossible to comply with and add no value. I could list pages of examples.

This is a real life lived experience, not political gamesmanship like the ‘experts’. This moves beyond political games as I believe this bill helps real world productivity and competitiveness where NZ is so obviously below the rest of the world.

When I read the bill and it’s practical and makes sense and has none of the outcomes that the opponents claim, I see a political hit job. Like the māori party grandstanding over a bill that was never ever, ever going to pass. Mere political gamesmanship for votes.

So I play the game, I never take anything personally and understand you are taking your position and I will counter it with mine.

But just a tip, you won’t win over voters, when the political experts (media and politicians) are so disconnected from real world lived experience reality 🙂

I agree, there are some I see whose posted and don’t bother even reading sometimes knowing the reputation of the poster, and plenty probably do it with me, even on ignore but this is a place where I come to give an opinion on whichever topic it may be. Nobody has the right to think their view is superior unless it’s actual fact and debate is extremely healthy. I enjoy learning about a person through their posts and understanding their point of views and those that I skip past their post I can read another on another thread and totally agree. Whether it be governments, races, genders or just us the people, we’re much more alike than different when we stop and talk

Need to be careful with charts - go back a further year & isn’t it lockdown impacted, however that’s not seen in the chart - but obviously benefits the period cycling it. Also what is the spike in early 2024? Everyone’s aware we’re at the bottom of a cycle created by Central bank & Government driven overspending & high inflation. We’ll gradually start to recover, hopefully later this year.
