Well, people have concern over how taxpayer dollars are spent - for example I have concern over why so much is being spent on roading and not public transport, and why oil instead of energy like solar and wind, or why we're having tax cuts WE CAN'T AFFORD.
So sure, you can have concern.
But this conversation, solely focussed on beneficiaries, a repeat of a right wing trope going back decades that fits within a neoliberal framework that gets repeated time and time again with such a narrow scope for some - that's tiresome and not helpful.
If there is genuine concern about welfare dependency then it needs engagement from all areas of society, a willingness to embrace many different types of solutions including multi cultural, a willingness to provide wrap around services, a willingness to redefine what the exit points of welfare look like and a willingness to all contribute to a meaningful social contract, one that doesn't involve mass concentration of wealth for the rich.
And a realisation that there is no quick fix. It will take a generation at least to break this. If you want to look at root cause the dominant economic system going back 40 years in this country is neoliberalism. The right determine this, an elite group of business and politicians determine this. Start there.
It's complex.
That's about it for me today, Mr Brownstone the above is kind of an answer to your question too sorry for not replying directly.
