A government of callous, soulless neoliberals. Of the rich, for the rich, by the rich.

Throw people out of work, then punish them for being out of work.

What’s the punishment?

Rubbish. You think I’m jealous of you all you want or anyone with wealth, but it’s not addressing the growing wealth of a few that seems to be lost in translation. The ird has recognised in the past few years that there’s not an even take of tax percentage wise across all and if there was our economies would benefit hugely
Just reflecting on your comments re IRD, and not wanting to rebut them

The IRD did their “super wealthy” exercise at David Parker’s bidding, which in my view actually made it political and undermined its credibility.

Which is a shame as there is merit at relooking at the tax system and his exercise was too narrow in its remit, painting a target on an “enemy” to try to garner public support to punish the wealthy

The IRD, with the help of tax system experts, should actually zoom out and think of the tax system overall and see what ideal looks like. Instead of just wanting to hammer the super wealthy/successful, which is how Parker’s report read. Parker is tainted by his politics, and what is actually needed is an apolitical project sponsor

Similar to the greens’ referendum on marijuana. Give us an apolitical project sponsor and maybe the electorate will listen. Unfortunately, it was rushed through and tainted by the party that proposed it. How about a recommendation to include all intoxicating substances, instead of just proposing marijuana? I’m sure there would be winners and losers in that analysis

‘While I was trying to work out what’s going on’

Say it all really… lot of rabbit hole exploration in there.
Gee Wiz ( :) ) you're desperately trying to label this conspiracy - take a look at America. National and Act in particular have the same thinktanks behind them, financing them.

It's right there in front of you. Right now. Happening here and the absolute fascist authoritarianism, and now promoting ethnic cleansing, in America.

To quote from the article:

This is neoliberalism. This is the wealthy. This is the oligarchs, the rich, the fascists. All on the right, very sorry to say.

This is who they are.

People wanting some answers and justifiably so
Thanks NoItAll, lots of questions around how Act were able to suppress this for so long, demanding tough on crime while their president gets extended name suppression, including at a time which would have made it very unpalatable around the election.

There were a LOT of right wingers on here bringing up golriz and running her down - someone who fronted and has paid the price justice wise, and a huge toll socially.

You'd think given the magnitude of this crime, and the ongoing bullying abusive patterns exposed in Act previously, that there would be more interest and discussion.

if it was as extreme as you portray it to be then it simply wouldn’t get voted in.
You'd think so eh. If the parties were completely honest it would never be voted in.

Turns out the culture war was just another pile of fake shit in a vast domain of fake shit designed to divide and isolate.

Trump is never a working class saviour to save you from the system, drain the swamp, the elites (whatever the fuck that means).

He is the system. He is the swamp. People voted him in

National would never be so brazen, Act are letting the facade slip at times, but they sing from the same playbook

And they actively lie at election time to cover this up.

But they are similar and follow the same plans. Break down democracy. Remove the rules restricting wealth extraction. Gain and retain power indefinitely.

Trump’s second term simply underlines just how poorly the Democates performed firstly under Obama & then a lot worse under Biden. But I agree with you, the working class that voted Trump in are completely delusional if they think he’s going to be their saviour.

There is a big difference between an MP and a party president. The party president is answerable to the party, and the MP to the electorate

Act should have just publicly cast him aside and sped up the process. No loss there in my view

The best thing to do with egregious behaviour is to quickly cut the offender loose (like Swarbrick wanted to do with Tana, Hipkins v Allen etc). But it has to be bad, as in this case

Interesting reads.
All advantages that the wealthy enjoy are available to poor people. They just can’t afford it.

No structural impediments to opening a family trust or a business.

Example, a homeless man inherits $200m. He opens a business and a family trust to protect his new wealth from over taxation.

Is this man a working class hero or a rich prick who needs to be taxed?

Some are smart enough or fortunate enough to make a fortune in their lifetime, but plenty are from old money and just been fortunate. Someone like trump has had a leg up in this regard all his life, so I don’t see the even playing field that you’re trying to portray in that regard. It’s like nepotism, the amount of hollywood actors that are children of hollywood actors is huge. Perhaps they’re there on their merits, but people in society definitely get leg ups. Some would say the poor you mentioned get a leg up through benefits and the likes
