Don’t worry about it JN
If you accept what Wiz says it’s the previous Govt’s fault
I can’t fathom why he hasn’t got that line on autocorrect as he uses it to bolster his every opinion
I’m absolutely no fan of Luxon however some of you don’t seem to comprehend the time it takes to turn around decisions made under the terrible stewardship under Labour. As an example, the decline we are seeing currently in cruise ships into NZ are a result of the negative policies of Ardern where it became too difficult & risky to commit to NZ. It will be another 2-3 years from here before volume recovers fully. Ardern specifically through her inability to grasp the basic concept of commerciality, and her party in general, set NZ back a long way.

It's Politics 101.... take procession of the good (even if it's a previous government's achievement) and blame the previous government for what goes wrong (even if the fault is with your government).... been that way since Ugg dropped his club on Igg's foot while out hunting mammoths.

This government is corrupt.

Tui wasn't a disaster, the place was still functioning and was shut in when the operator went belly up. I came out of retirement briefly to do some work on decommissioning.

The big issue was the field should never have been sold to Tamarind without guarantees from AWE that decommission costs were being accrued. This generally happens as soon as a field goes into production
Tui wasn't particularly expensive as there were only 8 wells and only 5 were production. The FPSO was unhooked and towed away. The project closed out this year and was successful
Maui and Maari will be a different kettle of fish with platforms involved and the options of Takeaway or Rig to Reef etc. OMV had their fields on the market for quite a while but no takers as buyers were uncertain of the future due to political interference

I doubt the industry will ever recover here after the captains call. No investor is going to spend a big bag of money on something that could be cancelled at any time by the vainglorious whim of a politician. And that goes for any major private infrastructure

This government is corrupt.

For over a decade, James Hardie defended their products such as Hardiflex and Harditex in court by saying that they were experts in the production of fibre cement board products... not weathertightness, window flashings, plaster systems or paint finishes so when their products failed during the leaky homes crisis, they used this as their excuse in court to put the blame on others.

Then, it was decided to change the Building Act and Building Code in the early 2000's and introduce Acceptable Standards which includes AS/E2 for exterior claddings. The government told what is now MBIE to provide details for the Acceptable Standards by going to the building industry. The details for long run roofing weren't supplied by "independent" people but came from the existing design details from Diamond Roofing, Colorsteel and Brownbuilt roofing. Instead of going to NZ's expert in brick claddings, John Oliver, they went to Brickmakers and used their details. Aluminium window details came directly from Nebulite. The plywood cladding details were worked on by Carter Holt Harvey and Fletchers while Monier provided the concrete tile details. The polystyrene cladding details came from Insulclad (who also used the "we aren't weathertightness experts" defence) while all the details for fibre cement products such as weatherboards (i.e. Hardiplank), sheeting (i.e. Villa Board and Hardiflex) and plaster cladding (i.e. Harditex) all came directly from James Hardie.

All these companies did was add cavity systems to their existing details for details where direct fixing wasn't shown.... details which had failed as "leaky homes".

And it's not just the exterior claddings.... waterproofing details for bathroom etc. in AS/E3 are based on Winstone Aqualine details from the late 1990's.

Sorry, but governments using "industry" to provide them with information and policy is nothing new.

And for those who require "proof", on the left is a Monier tiles standard roofing details from 1998 (i.e. pre the Building Code) and on the right is the Archived "Acceptable Solution E2/AS 2 details from the 2004-2005 version of the Building Code. The NZ standard details for exterior claddings are based on those which "failed" during the weathertighness crisis.

Oh, and before anyone says the AS/E2 details can't be right as it doesn't show a cavity system, if a building has a low enough Building Envelope Risk Matrix, claddings can still be direct fixed to studs without a cavity system. Here's the first roofing detail again from the latest version of AS/E2 still showing a direct fixed cladding system....

Get a grip buddy.

The revisionist masturbatory tone this thread is so dull and dishonest.
Just because Inruin and the village idiot from TGA love heart react your post doesn't mean you're right or smart.

What set the country back was a generational global pandemic. The whole worlds gone wonky since.

What set the recovery back further was the government shitting on people, workers,māori - while prioritising completely the wrong things to help normal people.

I’m just repeating what I’ve heard first hand from port industry leaders. You seem to have issues

I loved your comments about the cruise industry being shafted by Labour as being in tourism myself, I know it’s 100% true and hammered commitment to NZ from the cruise industry.

For context, the tourism levy to tourists introduced by National with no warning, pissed off and damaged the cruise and tourism industry as well.

It's failed!

You've failed. Her quitting was if the Foreign Buyers Tax didn't bring in enough money but the FBT was never introduced after the election.

You may as well ask that all the opposition MPs all quit because they haven't delivered on any of their election promises.

And even worse, the article you posted was before the election and is so old the links contained within it no longer work. From this article, it's impossible to even find out who these so-called independent economists even were.

The FBT failed to get off the ground even though she and Luxon promised that it would happen and even had it legally checked out. Winnie stopped it and has recently changed his mind but with a lower ceiling. Gained National many votes even so .

But the Government ended up borrowing more money to fund the tax cuts - that the public were against and made no difference to the average citizen.

Lot's of big talk but serious, serious under delivery - hence the polling and record bad ipsos survey result.
