I’m fairly new to cricket but will usually keep a close eye on us over the summer. Could you compare this to the AB’s getting done by Argentina at home?
Yep have to agree.Best since Richard Hadlee skittled the Aussies
I think from memory the closest we have come was 2-2 drawn series under John Reid in the 60's, at that time SA were pretty impressive as well.Yep have to agree.
Im also partial to that 2001 drawn series against Aussie over there.
Probably when the Aussies we're at the peak of their all conquering era - Hayden, Langer, Ponting, the Waugh brothers, Gilchrest, Warne< McGrath, Brett Lee......a once in a generation side to rival those 80s Windies teams as the best ever.
Showed us at our scrapiest best to draw the 3 Tests, Fleming made his mark as one of the best Captains ever, Bond debuted (went on to make the Aussies his bunnies) Vettori at his best.
So what does that leave now as far as new frontiers for this team to knock off?........Test Series win in South Africa?......we havent done that yet have we?
In that 2001 series didn't something also happen in the third test at the WACA? If I recall correctly there was a plumb LBW or caught behind that the umpire had a shocker with and gave not out on Jason Gillespie in the last session of day 5.I think from memory the closest we have come was 2-2 drawn series under John Reid in the 60's, at that time SA were pretty impressive as well.
I also agree re. the 2001 series, that Brisbane test where we nearly chased them down and McGrath resorted to bowling wides was pretty special, pretty sure Mark "rigor" Richardson got us off to a flyer with a quick 50 at the top and Cairnsy took it to the Aussies, Cairnsy, what a legend!
I believe you are right mate, I think it was Vettori had someone plumb ala Danny Morrison to Whitney. Forgot about that test, was that the same match where Vincent, Fleming, Astle and I think Parore all scored tons in the same innings, great times. In that 2001 series didn't something also happen in the third test at the WACA? I see that Rohit has questioned the Pant dismissal, but you could see there was a deflection off the bat which supported ultraedge. Refill made the correct and only call in giving it out.

does he have any issue with the other 9 wickets that fell for only 57 runs? 12 of them were byes! so the other 9 batsmen managed 45 runs between themI see that Rohit has questioned the Pant dismissal, but you could see there was a deflection off the bat which supported ultraedge. TBF he’s right. They mentioned the test series win during the half time break in the Aus v Pakistan ODI and Michael Vaughn said the series was the greatest achievement of all time in test cricket.
In a stat loving sport, how do you compare players across generations when some play the bulk of their career on 600 run pitches and others play on mainly 200 run pitches?Yup no more 600 runs each innings from both sides for a 5 day draw lol
